Weather in Okinawa on July 26th
⛈️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, the weather in Okinawa was heavily influenced by Typhoon Komai No. 8, bringing a lot of rain. In the morning, the sky was blue with beautiful clouds, but as the late morning approached, drizzle began, and by around 1 PM, it started to rain heavily. By the time it reached the main island of Okinawa, it was more of a weakened typhoon, so there wasn’t much wind, just heavy rain.
After 4 PM, the rain significantly weakened, with only sporadic drizzle continuing.
Typhoon Komai No. 8 Video
I did label it as a video of Typhoon Komae, the 8th typhoon, but since Okinawa is under the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system, the typhoon’s strength diminishes as it approaches. So, there was no wind, just a lot of rain… It was more like an ordinary rainy day rather than a typhoon.
Morning in Okinawa

This is the morning view of Miebashi. At this time, the sky was blue with pretty clouds floating by… It was a very hopeful day, and I was really looking forward to today’s photo shoot. However, as we started shooting, it gradually became overcast. From mid-June to mid-July, the sky was like this almost every day. I hope the typhoon passes soon so we can return to these ordinary days 🙏

Arriving at the American Village public car park… the sky over there was already filled with dark clouds, and those clouds seemed to be drifting towards me, though it might just be my imagination.

Perhaps because I spent all day yesterday shooting outdoors, I fell asleep early and am now rushing to finish the tasks I couldn’t complete. Today, I’m busy from the morning again.

This is Depot Island after finishing a snap shoot in Okinawa. There’s not much wind, just a light drizzle. It did rain a bit during the shoot. In the morning, the rain wasn’t very heavy.

After having lunch at a restaurant called Churahama, I step outside to take another photo of the sea in front of American Village.

I came to Lawson convenience store to buy zenzai, and while waiting, I took a look at the waterproof smartphone cases… The price is quite high. A product suitable for enjoying a bit of snorkelling is sold at Daiso for 220 yen, but this one is a whopping 2,527 yen. It must have excellent performance. In fact, for light snorkelling, the Daiso product is more than sufficient.

Today, I’m cooling down the hot summer with Okinawa zenzai. It’s delicious, so do try some before you go.

Although it hasn’t rained heavily yet, there are many people taking photos here. I’ll give it a try next time as well.

As I was heading back to the car park where I had parked, the rain started to come down more heavily. Most people were using umbrellas, but I didn’t have one, so I just walked on.

Here is a photo I took on the way back to Naha. It seems to capture today’s weather quite well.
It’s uncomfortably warm and humid. I was hoping for a typhoon, but unfortunately, the one I imagined didn’t arrive.
The Scene of Kokusai Street

I needed to return the car on Kokusai Street, but it was raining heavily. Without an umbrella, I was stuck in the car. It was raining too much to just go outside and get wet, so I took a moment to write a blog post in the car. This part is also captured in the video above.

After about an hour, the rain began to ease. From then on, there wasn’t any heavy rain, just intermittent drizzles. As my schedule for today is complete, I’m writing this piece about Okinawa’s weather from home.
Okinawa Weather Forecast

This is the weather radar for Okinawa tomorrow. A typhoon is currently over Okinawa, but it is continuously weakening due to the North Pacific high pressure system. According to the forecast, there will be heavy rain around 9 a.m. on the 27th, which is tomorrow. However, the expected rainfall is 11mm, so it’s uncertain if it will actually rain heavily. Different meteorological agencies have varying opinions on the amount of rain expected. [Source: Weathernews Japan]

This is the weather forecast for the 5th week of July and the 1st week of August in Okinawa. As it’s a forecast, the weather for next week doesn’t hold much significance. Asking about next week’s weather in group chats or open chats is quite meaningless. In Okinawa, you can only clearly know the weather about 2-3 days in advance. So, I recommend checking here daily. I believe seeing it with your own eyes is the best way to know how it actually is.
Anyway, on the 27th and 28th, there is a 100% chance of rainfall with 11mm and 12mm expected, respectively. Usually, the meteorological agency doesn’t use the term 100%, but they confidently forecasted 100% rain.
Currently, Typhoon No. 8, Komai, is located over the main island of Okinawa, but it’s being suppressed by the North Pacific High, making its strength very weak. It’s so weak that it’s hardly worth calling a typhoon, and there’s not much wind either. It’s really just a large rain cloud cluster that brings a lot of rain.
Since we’re under the influence of Typhoon No. 8, Komai, until the 28th, I’ll keep you updated on the Okinawa weather. I’ll wrap up here and see you again tomorrow with more weather news. Matayasai 👋
