Okinawa Weather on August 4th

🌤️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, I’ll start the Okinawa weather report for August 4th.
Today, I spent the entire day working on editing just one team of Okinawa snaps and ended up sleeping at my desk without doing much else. As a result, the weather videos and photos from Okinawa are from later in the afternoon. It might feel a bit different from usual, so I hope you find it charming.
To summarise today’s weather, the highest temperature was 32°C and the lowest was 27°C. I might have missed it, but I don’t recall any rain today. Therefore, the humidity was slightly less, and it didn’t feel extremely hot. However, don’t get me wrong, it was still warm.

Okinawa Weather Video

Today, I’ve stitched together a few video clips. Videos might offer a bit more realism than photos. As someone who actually takes bookings and sells Okinawa snap photos, I do pay some attention to the quality of the photos. However, I don’t really focus on the videos. That’s why the photos often look prettier than what you see in real life. Although I could do the same with videos, I personally don’t have the leisure to invest that much time in them. Despite appearances, I have a busy schedule and am quite occupied.

Kokusai Street and Route 58

저녁 마키시 시장의 모습 8월 4일

I took a bike ride to Kokusai Street.
August 4th… Monday…? What’s going on? Why are there so many tourists?
It’s supposed to be a quiet Monday, but perhaps it’s the holiday season? There were quite a few tourists. From what I could hear, people were mostly speaking Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese. Roughly speaking, the ratio seemed to be about 3 Korean, 4 Japanese, and 3 Taiwanese.

국제거리의 노을녘

The sky is quite blazing today. Actually, it’s a bit milder than this, but as someone who needs to make even unappealing photos look good, let’s just go with it. Anyway, there were quite a few tourists around 6:30 PM. Usually, at this time on a Monday, the traffic on Kokusai Street should be clear, but there were many vehicles. I heard that there were so many visitors at the Churaumi Aquarium today that the waiting time for entry was quite long.

58번 국도의 노을 모습

This is the view of Route 58. Although it was past rush hour, there were many vehicles both leaving and entering Naha. Typically, during the off-peak season, there should be more cars leaving Naha on a Monday.

서해안 붉은 구름

Today’s sunset was a bit of a letdown, but the clouds were still beautiful. They were tinged with red. This phenomenon occurs when refracted light reaches the clouds, and since everyone was capturing them with their smartphones, I decided to take a photo too.

Sunset on the West Coast, 4th August

나미노우에 신사의 노을

As expected, there were quite a few tourists at Naminoue Shrine. The restoration work on the beach side has been completed, so the beach and the shrine are connected again. This makes it easier to take photos once more. I’m not sure what you all might think, but despite the heat, quite a few people opt for Okinawa snaps in yukata. Personally, I don’t think shooting in Japanese kimono or Okinawan kimono during July and August is ideal, but yukata are very thin, aren’t they? The material is cool, so we often take photos at Naminoue Beach and then come up to the shrine to continue shooting.

해변의 여인들

This is the view of Naminoue Beach. I should have taken the photo when the blazing sun was here… I ended up running more to take a picture at the beach and missed the round sun. Anyway, dressing like that makes for a cool trip. It’s hot today, but not as insanely hot as it was at the end of July.

해저무는 서해안 노을

If I had arrived just three minutes earlier, I could have observed the sunset sun more clearly. What a pity.

구름 너머의 노을녘 태양

This is what it looks like when you zoom in a bit.
There are ways to show you more detailed photos, but… the server costs are a bit high, so I kindly ask for your understanding in only showing smaller images.
For reference, the breakwater you see there is designed to block tsunamis. It may look low from a distance, but it’s actually a very high breakwater, easily reaching almost 3 metres. This means that tsunamis under 3 metres cannot reach Naha. Historically, Naha has suffered more from tsunamis than earthquakes, which is why they have such perfect measures in place.

붉은 구름

This is yet another red cloud. There were quite a few people sitting nearby, watching the sunset.

바닷가에 앉아서 노을을 구경하는 사람들

In this way, you can grab a drink near the tetrapod and enjoy the sunset. The location is roughly [Google Map], so if you’re in Naha and find it a bit too much to go all the way to Umikaji Terrace, consider paying a visit.

In Okinawa, unlike Korea, Europe, or mainland Japan, the sun sets slightly to the northwest rather than directly west. So, if you’re visiting Okinawa in July or August and want to enjoy the sunset, you should find a spot on a beach facing northwest rather than directly west.

나미노우에 해변에서 수영하는 사람들

This is Naminoue Beach. It may not seem crowded, but it’s after business hours, and for a Monday, there are quite a few people. All the nearby food trucks have also packed up.

나하 구메 지역 노을녘

I’m heading towards Matsuyama Street, taking a slightly different route than usual. If I go directly through Tomari, I can be home in under 5 minutes, but this way takes about 10 minutes longer. Still, the sunset is beautiful, so I’m taking this path.
If you continue along this road, you’ll reach a place called Kumeji, which has many great restaurants, as well as clubs and karaoke bars. I’ll be uploading a post about this area soon.

8월 4일 미에바시 강둑의 노을녘

The water in the Miebashi River seems to be evaporating rather than being released. It appears there won’t be any significant rain in the next few days. Upon checking, there’s a forecast of 2.2mm of rain tomorrow, but it’s likely not to come, so there’s no need to worry about it. As there are no typhoons or tropical depressions near Okinawa at the moment, it seems we’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful sky of a purely hot summer day for a while.
That concludes the Okinawa weather report for August 4th. I’ll be back with more weather updates tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
