Weather in Okinawa on August 8th

☀️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, I bring you the weather report for Okinawa on the 8th of August.
I’ve travelled through the northern, central, and southern parts of Okinawa today, so I can share the weather across the entire region. Speaking of Okinawa lately, it seems that the north is slightly warmer than the south. Although there’s definitely more wind, the sunshine feels stronger as well. I certainly sweat a lot during shoots. While you might focus on swimming or water activities when visiting the north, I’m busy with my camera, so it just feels hot to me. Anyway, today was a typical summer day with a high of 32°C and a low of 28°C, and it was warm enough to break a sweat just by walking under the sun.
Additionally, Typhoon No. 11, named Bavi, has formed in the distant Mariana Trench to the east of Okinawa, and I’ll provide more details in the forecast section below.

Okinawa Weather Video for 8th August

Today’s Okinawa weather video has been compiled into a short clip. The sunset today was truly stunning. I’ve included it as the climax of the Okinawa snap shoot, and now the Kokusai Street daytime and sunset shooting route is nearing completion. This means… I’ll be raising the prices soon.

Okinawa Weather on 8th August

This is a photo taken somewhere in northern Motobu. After spending a day at the Sesoko Island guest house and finishing a morning shoot, I’m on my way down to the central area. Even in the morning… it’s hot. Sweat trickles down… but driving feels quite comfortable thanks to the car’s air conditioning.

This is the 21st Century Forest Beach. This area is not a swimming zone, but a regular sandy beach. It boasts the longest beach in Okinawa. The stone structure visible in the centre of the photo is a tetrapod, and beyond that lies the swimming beach. That area is well-maintained, but this side has a lot of weeds. Many people from Taiwan have been asking ChatGPT about the 21st Century Forest Beach, leading to increased traffic to my blog. Therefore, I plan to update it soon with more information about the 21st Century Forest Beach.

This is American Village. Before starting the morning Okinawa snap shoot, I took a few weather photos. It’s currently low tide, so the water is starting to recede. You might notice a small pile of rocks towards the left centre, which will appear larger in about 2-3 days. That’s why during low tide, I reduce the beachside shooting portion when I do snap shoots. The water… looks a bit… murky.

It was around 10:30 in the morning at American Village. There aren’t many tourists yet. Usually, it gets busier around lunchtime. Since the shoot is at 11, I’m taking a quick tour of the cafes. I think I’ve visited more than half of the restaurants in American Village by now. I’ve been to almost all the restaurants on the first floor, and now I’m exploring those on the second and third floors.

This is the view of the American Village before heading south after lunch. It was incredibly hot at this time. The sunlight was quite intense.

This is the southern Miebashi.
It’s hot in the south too, but it seems like the central and northern areas are even hotter. I mention the word Miebashi quite often, don’t I? Miebashi is the most important area in Naha. That’s because all the famous eateries in Okinawa are located in Miebashi. Recently, while filming, people have been asking me what Miebashi is after reading my posts… It’s my fault for not explaining it earlier.
I’ve visited most of the restaurants on Kokusai Street, but the truly great eateries are all in Miebashi and Kumeji.
Although the keyword “Okinawa Kokusai Street eateries” attracts a lot of traffic… what can you do if there aren’t many great places there…? This needs to change to Miebashi eateries in the meta.

Evening Twilight

This evening’s Okinawa snap is a sunset shoot. It’s a sunset on Kokusai Street, and I’ve now completed all the planning and route for how to shoot it. The reason the cost of a Kokusai Street snap is low is that there wasn’t a system in place to handle any situation, but now there’s no problem. The biggest challenge was how to incorporate the sunset… and once again, Miebashi came to the rescue.

With this backdrop, I wrapped up the Okinawa snap shoot. Today’s sunset was incredibly red and vibrant. As the sun set, the heat eased a bit, which was nice. At least walking doesn’t make you sweat. Of course, if you run, you’ll sweat. In this kind of weather, it’s perfect for heading to an izakaya for a drink and then strolling back to your accommodation. By the way, this is in front of Miebashi Station, and there are many great eateries to the left here.

Okinawa Weather Forecast

A tropical storm named Bavi has formed in the distant eastern Mariana Trench. The North Pacific high-pressure system is moving eastward along the storm’s path, resulting in differing forecasts from various meteorological agencies. The stronger the North Pacific high becomes, the less likely it is for the storm to reach Okinawa. However, if the high pressure strengthens slowly, the storm may brush past Okinawa. Currently, it is a Category 1 storm, but it is expected to develop into a Category 2 storm by the time it reaches Okinawa. [Source: AccuWeather / Japan Weather News]
Rain is expected around August 11th to 12th, but we will need to keep an eye on how things develop.

That’s it for the Okinawa weather report on August 8th. I’ll be back tomorrow with a summary of the storm’s route and more information. Matayasai 👋
