Weather in Okinawa on August 20th
👋 Haisai! It’s CULT here.
Starting the Okinawa weather report for 20th August 2025. Today, Okinawa was still hot, but… how should I put it… it felt like the temperature slightly dropped. Usually, the high temperatures of 33-34 degrees continued, but it was around 32 degrees, so it felt like there was a 1-2 degree difference. Since I’m constantly taking photos of the little ones under the sun, I’m more sensitive to it. However, even though the temperature was slightly lower today, it felt hotter than yesterday because… there were fewer clouds, making the sunlight very intense. Without the cloud filter, the direct sunlight made my throat feel a bit sore.
Okinawa Weather Video for 20th August 2025
Today’s Okinawa weather video is filled with footage mostly shot at Chatan American Village. It’s just an ordinary summer day in Okinawa, so you can consider this as a glimpse of what the summer weather in Okinawa is like these days.

This is Route 58. Perhaps because it’s the morning rush hour, there are quite a lot of vehicles heading into Naha. I’m also on my way to work for filming. It’s around 7:30 in the morning, so it’s not hot. It’s cool and breezy, making it quite pleasant. I can feel the temperature rising by about one degree every 30 minutes.

While I was moving to a bus stop where the bus arrives more quickly, I took a picture of Route 58. It’s a fairly wide seven-lane road and the second largest avenue in Okinawa. Of course, Route 58 is the widest, but in the Uesolashi area, there’s also an eight-lane road.
Hot American Village

This is Sunset Beach at American Village.
Since it’s low tide, the water has completely receded… Even if you walk to the end of the jellyfish prevention net, the water is only knee-deep, making it more suitable for wading than swimming. On days like this, it’s better to enjoy the resort pool rather than playing in the sea. By the way, this low tide seems to have more water receding than usual.

After finishing the first Okinawa snap shoot in the morning, here is the scene we captured. Despite it being a Wednesday morning, there were quite a few cars. It seems like there are still many tourists, probably because the holiday season is just ending. And as it gets closer to noon, it feels like it’s getting hotter.

Because… more than half of the sky was almost cloudless, so the sunlight was shining directly down. I had to keep taking photos of the baby, so I was continuously exposed to the sun, and today’s sunlight felt hotter than usual. However, the wind kept blowing, so the perceived temperature wasn’t necessarily high.

This is Sunset Beach, captured before heading home after the shoot. The water depth remains unchanged, and there aren’t many people around. On days like this, it’s better to head to the northern beaches. Places like Bisezaki or Mission Beach. I also recommend Kouri Beach 😀

This is a view of the sea taken from Depot Island. Although the beach is short and the sea looks deep here, the water is still quite shallow. On days like this, the sea water is usually warm. It’s a bit far from being refreshing as the waves are very gentle and the water circulation is slow.

This is a photo of Route 58 taken before heading home. There are still not many clouds on this side, so the sun’s rays are quite intense. Although the humidity is still high, it’s relatively lower compared to other days, so waiting for the bus in the shade didn’t feel particularly hot today.

Today, I’m checking the water level of the Miebashi River again. During low tide, we release the water, and in the evening, we close the sluice gates to refill it. Since there’s no rain forecast for a while, it’s a time when we need to manage water resources very carefully. I always keep more than 50 bottles of 2-litre water stocked at home. It’s partly to prepare for natural disasters, but from my experience living in Okinawa, I’ve realised… even though it’s a place where it rains often… if it doesn’t rain for about a month, it could be quite serious.

This is the evening view of Miebashi. It’s still hot, but it feels slightly less humid than usual, and it wasn’t annoyingly hot. You could say it’s the perfect climate for travelling.
That’s all for today! I’ll wrap it up here and will be back tomorrow with more Okinawa weather updates. Matayasai 👋
