Okinawa Weather on 17th July
🌧️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, the weather in Okinawa started off looking clear and beautiful in the morning, but by the afternoon, it began to rain heavily. It wasn’t continuous; it alternated between being clear and rainy, and at one point, the rain was so heavy that visibility was quite poor.
However, I spent most of today in the Yomitan area, which is in central Okinawa, and it turned out that Yomitan experienced the heaviest rainfall in Okinawa today. It rained 25mm in a short period, and the temperature in Okinawa today reached a high of 30°C and a low of 26°C.
Naha City Area

This is what it looked like this morning. I was looking forward to going snorkelling, but the clear weather only lasted until the morning.

If you’re planning to go snorkelling, there are a few things you need to prepare. I’m looking for disposable towels but haven’t been able to find them. They don’t seem to be available at Daiso. If anyone knows where to get them in Okinawa, please let me know 🙏

It’s around 10 in the morning in Omoromachi. I came to buy something, but the weather was so lovely that I decided to take some photos.

While browsing through Daiso, I found something interesting. It’s a knife shaped like a carrot, which was quite a hit in Korea. There is a channel called MBC, known for its fake news in Korea, that once made a big deal about how children’s toy plastic knives were dangerous.
How to Get to Yomitan

Today, we’re heading to the Blue Cave. It’s a very famous snorkelling spot in Okinawa. It takes about an hour from home, but since I need to explore some popular eateries and places along the way, I’ll be setting off early in the morning.

I arrived a bit early and am eagerly exploring some great eateries. This will be uploaded in a few days. The list of eateries in Motobu was a bit lacking, but I’ll be uploading several this time. Look forward to it! 😘
Blue Cave Snorkelling

Before setting off for the Blue Cave snorkelling, there was some waiting time, so I took a few photos of the Okinawa weather. This photo is a typical example of a squall, with heavy rain on the left and no rain near Manzamo on the right.
I’m currently in the Yomitan Village area, where it’s raining heavily, while other areas reportedly have lighter rain.

Taking a quick snap as we set off for snorkelling. This was taken with an iPhone 16 Pro, so the resolution is quite low.

It’s a shame I can’t bring my camera. The Blue Cave is just behind that hill.

When we finished snorkelling in the Blue Cave, it was raining quite heavily. Even while snorkelling, I’m capturing the Okinawa weather. [Google Map]
I’ve even captured this on video. The footage is quite shaky as it was filmed on the water. Although the rain was light at the time, it didn’t hinder the snorkelling experience at all. The underwater world remains beautiful, and the fish continue to welcome me. I’ll compile and share more information and updates about snorkelling separately.

After finishing snorkelling and tidying up, I’m on my way to the car park to get the car.
At this moment, the rain had temporarily stopped. Even from a small view of the photo, you can tell it was taken with a camera, not a smartphone. Indeed, for capturing Okinawa’s weather, using a camera is the way to go.

While organising the luggage in the car and trying to find the navigation to the place where I need to supplement the Ryukyu Eight Views photos… it started raining heavily.
Rainy Okinawa Weather, The Journey Back to Naha

I’m on my way back to Naha. I thought the rain had stopped for a while, but then it started pouring again. While waiting at a traffic light, I took a photo of people with umbrellas.

Unfortunately, it coincided with rush hour, so there were a lot of vehicles heading into Naha city. The line of cars seemed endless.

Returning to Miebashi, I park the car and organise my belongings. On the way home, I observe the primary school children with their umbrellas. Even though the rain was quite heavy at that time, seeing them not using umbrellas makes me think they truly are Okinawan children.

After returning home, I did the laundry for the clothes and underwear I used for snorkelling, and then went out to buy something for dinner. It was raining at that time too. The rain completely stopped around 8 PM. As I’m writing this, it’s currently 8:42 PM, and it hasn’t started raining again yet.
By the way, I have a snap photography session booked at Bise Saki, Okinawa tomorrow, but there’s a forecast for rain, which is a bit worrying. I really hope the weather is clear and beautiful during the shoot.

Tonight, I’m finishing off with zenzai again. The Lawson convenience store zenzai is really quite good. If you visit Okinawa, do try the zenzai. It’s about 380 yen and quite delicious. It has a similar feel to Korean market patbingsu.
That’s all for today! I’ll wrap it up here and will be back tomorrow with more Okinawa weather updates. Matayasai 👋
