Okinawa Weather on 26th June

🌦️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, the weather in Okinawa is a bit complicated. According to the messages from people travelling across Okinawa in our group chat, it seems there have been quite a few torrential showers in the northern part. As I live in Naha in the south, I’ve only heard about it indirectly, so I’m just passing on what I’ve been told.
Torrential showers mean that rather than a lot of rain, there are brief but intense downpours, and usually, the weather clears up afterwards, so there’s no need to worry too much when planning your trip. To summarise today, the highest temperature is 31°C and the lowest is 26°C, which is slightly cooler compared to last week.

Miebashi and the International Street Area

This is what this morning looked like. It started as a day with quite a few clouds and not much blue sky, but the sun was peeking through. In my experience, Okinawa’s weather is overwhelmingly more beautiful and sunny compared to Korea. As long as you avoid the rainy season or typhoons, it’s generally a successful travel destination. It’s almost like Europe…
And since I’m living in Okinawa, perhaps the typhoons might decrease. Because… in the places where I’ve lived for over a month, even the rain that was supposed to come doesn’t, leading to severe droughts that trouble the farmers. I lived in the Czech Republic for 11 years, and it was almost a drought for 10 of those years. Now that I’ve left Prague, they’re experiencing floods.

I had to do some photo editing today, but before starting, I went out briefly to buy an energy drink. It rained and then stopped while I was out. The ground was wet, and someone had just put out recyclable paper for collection.
I’m not sure if this is a Japan-wide practice or just an Okinawa thing. Initially, I found it inconvenient to separate and put out paper like this, but now I’ve completely adapted to it.

This is Kokusai Street after the rain has stopped. I edited and uploaded the photos, took a nap, and then went out for a bike ride. It’s sunny and lovely.

I’m on a culinary tour at Makishi Market. Today, I’ve ticked off another restaurant. I usually visit a place twice before writing about it. I’ll continue to share more travel information about Okinawa with you.

On the way back after the meal, there are usually not many people around here. It’s quite peaceful.

Here we are again at Kokusai Street. Perhaps because it’s a Thursday afternoon, the number of tourists noticeably seems to be increasing.

This is the Miebashi River. Instead of checking the weather forecast to see if it will rain today or tomorrow, I look at the Miebashi River.
If the water level in the river is low, it means rain is expected today or tomorrow. If the water is drained to the point where you can see the bottom, it indicates a lot of rain is coming. Conversely, if the river is full to the point of overflowing, it means there won’t be rain for a while. Judging by the very low water level, it seems that rain is expected soon.

Another Hot Day in Okinawa

Let’s also visit Naminoue Beach. Since it’s the sea, we should capture it at least once.

This is Naminoue Beach. It’s hot. I just dipped my feet in to check the temperature of the sand… it’s scorching. It’s hot. Yes, it’s 31 degrees Celsius.

When you step from a regular forest path or shaded area onto the beach, you can immediately feel the temperature rise. It’s definitely recommended to wear attire suitable for the beach when you’re at a seaside resort. Here, you’ll find coin-operated showers, foot baths, and a rental shop where you can hire beach equipment. [Google Map]

A cruise ship has arrived today. In the summer, they come and go almost every day. If I get the chance, I’d love to try taking a cruise ship that travels within Japan, rather than going overseas.

This is Tomari Port. It’s certainly hot. I was pondering what to use for today’s Okinawa weather thumbnail… and I’ve decided on this.

This is the Tomari Bridge. It seems hotter here because the asphalt has a lighter tone, reflecting more light. At this time, a boat should be arriving from Kume Island, but it seems it has already left. I’ve been quite busy lately, but if I get the chance, I’ll visit Kume Island and introduce it to you one by one.

I’m not usually the type to spend my money on things like ice cream. This just shows how incredibly hot it was today. Although the temperature has dropped compared to last week, the humidity is definitely higher. It feels even hotter, and sweat runs down my face like a tap left on. In the end, I treated myself to a refreshing ice cream.
There’s a similar product in Korea, isn’t there? But the Korean version is smoother and tastier. Of course, it’s also more expensive.

Around 4:30 PM, a shower came down.
I knew it was going to rain even before it started. What I mean is, you know those dark storm clouds you can see in the distance? I noticed the view suddenly becoming blurry over there, so I figured it was raining in that direction and quickly brought in the laundry. Just as I finished, the wind and rain started to lash.
I’ve been posting about the weather in Prague for 10 years, so I have a habit of observing it closely… I can usually sense it. It seems this habit is positively influencing my daily weather posts in Okinawa too.

Anyway, it’s hot today. I’ll wrap it up here and return tomorrow with more Okinawa weather updates. Matayasai 👋
