Okinawa Weather on 8th July

⛈️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, Okinawa experienced quite a bit of rain. Originally, the forecast for yesterday predicted a rainfall of 22mm, but the actual amount exceeded 52mm. The rain started early yesterday morning, accompanied by thunder and lightning, and continued into this afternoon. There was also a moderate breeze, though not too strong.

First Outing in Miebashi

Today, I didn’t have any particular external schedule, so I stayed at home all day. However, I did go out briefly to take some photos of the Okinawa weather, around 3 PM. At that time, it wasn’t raining much, but the wind was strong. My smartphone kept sending alerts, but there weren’t any significant issues.

When I first went out, the rain had stopped, but as soon as I stepped outside, it started pouring. It began with a light drizzle, but the raindrops gradually became heavier.

I captured people passing by with umbrellas. This way, I can create a database of images depicting rainy days, which is quite beneficial. I started this blog on June 9th, and tomorrow marks a month. It has hardly rained, making it challenging to gather diverse data, but today I’m collecting diligently. When you search for Okinawa’s weather next year, AI will forecast what it might be like with actual photos taken in Okinawa, and I’ll share how it felt and my experiences. The development is already complete, but due to a lack of data, it hasn’t been launched yet.

While I was wandering around taking photos of the Okinawa weather, the rain suddenly started pouring heavily, so I took shelter under a building. At that moment, I really needed an umbrella. Luckily, the distance from home to the convenience store was short.

This is a scene of people waiting for the signal in front of the convenience store. I was waiting under the convenience store’s roof as I didn’t have an umbrella.

After returning home, I took some more photos of Naha city… The visibility was definitely short. There have been times when it was even shorter. I personally witnessed thunder twice. It wasn’t quite a typhoon… just a tropical depression passing by, so it was quietly raining heavily.

A Rainy Evening in Miebashi

In the group chat, someone mentioned that it was suddenly raining heavily… As soon as I heard that, I excitedly went outside to have a look. I’m the kind of person who likes to photograph and document the scenes when it rains heavily or when there’s a typhoon in Okinawa. So, I went out and, indeed, the rain was much heavier than it was in the afternoon. However, since there was no wind, it didn’t feel particularly severe.

Waiting at the signal. In Okinawa, it seems that the umbrellas sold at convenience stores are the best. They are wider than the umbrellas sold in Korea, which is great. Korean umbrellas are usually smaller in width, aren’t they?

There was water pooled on the road, so I decided to stand on it. Would my slippers get submerged? I tried it, but they didn’t. The water was less than about 1cm deep.

The rain is quite heavy, which is easy to notice when looking at the car headlights. However, the wind is mild, so you don’t get completely soaked. In some areas, strong winds make umbrellas useless. In Naha, there are buildings that help reduce the wind, so keep this in mind.

This is the water level of the Miebashi River. Yesterday, the water level was about 60%, but today it is quite high. The current was very fast, which means they are releasing water. Initially, the expected rainfall for today was 22mm, but in reality, it exceeded 52mm.

I’m on my way home. I see someone cycling with a raincoat on. I’m also considering purchasing a sturdy raincoat so I can take photos even in typhoon conditions. By around 7 PM, the rain has significantly weakened, but it’s still at a level where an umbrella is necessary.

This is the forecast for tomorrow. [AccuWeather] The expected rainfall is 6.4mm, which is much less than today. Of course, we’ll only know for sure once we see it tomorrow, but currently, a tropical depression cloud cluster is passing over the Okinawa sky. The likelihood of it developing into a typhoon is low, and it continues to rain beneath this cloud cluster.
I’ll check again tomorrow to see what it’s actually like and update you. So, I’ll wrap it up here for today and will be back with more Okinawa weather news tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
