Okinawa Weather on July 22nd
🌤️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today’s weather in Okinawa can be described as a bit complicated. It seems that Typhoon Francisco is weakening day by day. In the morning, it rained, then we had a beautifully clear sky in the afternoon, and by evening, the rain returned. Additionally, the wind was quite strong throughout the day, making it feel cooler than the actual temperature. The highest temperature was 31°C, while the lowest was 27°C.
The Scene Around Miebashi

Woke up in the morning and turned on the Python server… The laptop was overheating so much that I decided to take it apart and clean it. I opened the balcony window to dust it off, and…

It was raining. In the morning, the rain was quite heavy. An umbrella was necessary. Also, as there was a bit of wind, the morning air felt refreshing.

I’m on my way out for lunch this afternoon. Perhaps because it rained in the morning, the weather is absolutely beautiful. The air is also very clear, which is lovely.

This is Miebashi Station, and the reflection of the blue sky on the concrete felt incredibly beautiful. By the way, we were supposed to be experiencing the effects of Typhoon Francisco right now, but it seems to be gradually dissipating due to the North Pacific high-pressure system.
Francisco and the Vanished Kokusai Street

This is the scene on Kokusai Street in the afternoon. There are quite a lot of tourists this week. There weren’t many until the weekend, but from Monday, it suddenly got very crowded. I overheard that it’s a holiday period in some country… I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been able to keep track 😓

The temperature was 31 degrees, but perhaps due to the remnants of Typhoon Francisco, there was quite a bit of wind, making for a cool afternoon. It was slightly warm, but less so compared to last week.

Today, I’m out for a leisurely ride and passing by Fukushuen. Over there is the Fukushuen Café, where they sell traditional Chinese tea. I’ve tried it a few times, but it doesn’t quite suit my taste.

Naminoue Shrine wasn’t as crowded as yesterday, but there were still quite a few tourists. There weren’t many in this angle, but outside the frame, there were a lot of tourists. They seemed to be Taiwanese tourists.

This is the Tomari Bridge, and the wind is incredibly strong. As expected, upon checking the weather, a high wave warning has been issued. It usually gets issued around 3 PM, which is probably why the ferries are hastily departing since the morning. When a high wave warning is issued, they can’t set sail. Also, looking down from Tomari Bridge, there were many people swimming at Naminoue Beach.

I visited Tomari Port. As expected, all the ferries left the port hurriedly before the blue alert was issued at 3 PM. With winds like these, most snorkelling or ferry tours get cancelled. In Okinawa, strong winds have a greater impact on travel than rain.

This is a photo of Tomari Port taken from a different angle. The weather is absolutely beautiful for photography today. I have several snap shoots scheduled in Okinawa this weekend, and I really hope this weather continues.

You might have already noticed on Kokusai Street… this is a common summer outfit. If it’s hot, dress lightly, but if you’re worried about UV rays, it’s a good idea to wear long clothes.

Today wasn’t particularly hot, but as I was walking, I suddenly thought of Fujiya Zenzai, so I went to have a bowl. This is the milk zenzai for 590 yen, and it’s really delicious. I highly recommend you try it. A recommended place!

Evening Around Miebashi

Since yesterday, I’ve noticed these kinds of signs frequently at pedestrian crossings. It seems there might have been a recent traffic accident involving children. The message means to stop and look around carefully. Usually, this phrase is commonly seen by drivers.

Here is today’s water level of the Miebashi River. As expected, there is no concern of heavy rain in the coming days, so it is storing a lot of water. I did some research and found out that even if the Miebashi River is filled with water and the sluice gates are closed, the water continues to evaporate by a few centimetres each day. Therefore, they store the water for use until heavy rain is expected, at which point they release it. It seems to be the most accurate and intuitive rainfall forecast system, more so than any weather forecast.

It’s late afternoon in Miebashi. A light drizzle is falling. Despite the rain, the students at the elementary school below continue their baseball game.

This is the view of the Miebashi Station monorail in the evening. As it was rush hour, there were quite a few people on the monorail.

This was supposed to be today’s final weather photo… but with the rain coming again, the conclusion will be after this. Ending the day with a cloudy sky.

In the evening, there was a brief but intense shower lasting about 10 minutes. When I asked a local Okinawan, they said this is very typical summer weather for Okinawa. It’s quite an interesting climate.
Okinawa Weather Forecast

This week’s and next week’s forecast.
For this week, there are days with rain in the forecast… but all have less than 5mm of precipitation, so like today, there’s a high chance of sudden 10-minute guerrilla showers with clear skies. The 27th-28th was originally the period when Okinawa was expected to be under the influence of Typhoon Francisco, but due to the North Pacific high-pressure system breaking it apart, a low-pressure cloud that could become Francisco again has formed in the south.
The scattered low pressure seems to be creating strong winds. [AccuWeather]

Okinawa is currently under the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system. What this means is that this high pressure is preventing typhoons from coming up. A tropical low-pressure cloud has formed east of the Philippines, and we need to keep an eye on how it develops. By tomorrow, that low-pressure cloud will likely move somewhere else. I’ll update you on the situation again tomorrow.
That’s all for today’s weather update. I’ll wrap it up here and return with more Okinawa weather news tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
