Okinawa Weather on July 9th
🌤️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today in Okinawa, the weather was beautifully contrasting with yesterday’s heavy rain, featuring a blue sky and white clouds. The rain continued until early this morning, which made the air feel fresher and clearer than usual. The temperature reached a high of 30°C and a low of 26°C, making it the coolest day since mid-June, and it didn’t actually feel too hot today.
Near Miebashi

This is what it looked like around 7 o’clock this morning. Looking at the ground, I could guess that it had rained about 2-3 hours earlier. I noticed it was raining until 2 a.m. before I went to sleep, and it seems the rain stopped not long after I fell asleep.

Around 9 a.m., I stepped outside briefly to buy a drink. The blue sky, which was absent yesterday, has reappeared. Although rain was forecasted for today, there was no sign of it in Naha. The forecast predicted 6.4mm of rain, but I’m sure it must have rained somewhere in Okinawa.

I hadn’t seen a blue sky for a day, so it felt nice to see it again after a while. Indeed, the Okinawa sky is beautifully blue.

So, I captured the blue sky in this direction as well. At that time, there were dark storm clouds on one side. However, I didn’t witness any rain. I also didn’t hear any news of rain in the group chat.

The water level of the Miebashi River is approximately 60%. This also means that there is no heavy rain expected for the time being.
Yesterday, 52mm of rain fell, but we managed to handle it well with the river level at about 60%. Therefore, even if it rains as much as it did yesterday in the near future, we should be able to cope adequately.
Kokusai Street and Naminoue

I went out to take photos of the Okinawa weather late in the afternoon. Perhaps because it was a Wednesday afternoon, there weren’t too many tourists around.

I’m cycling and following the traffic signals for vehicles. But is this correct? In Europe, bicycles must follow the same traffic signals as vehicles, so when turning right, you extend your right arm. However, drivers in Japan don’t seem to recognise this as a right turn signal. It seems that the laws and culture are different.

Today, I passed by Naminoue Shrine again. I spotted someone wearing an Okinawan kimono. With the temperature at 30 degrees and a breeze blowing, it’s one of the less hot days, so it’s somewhat bearable to wear it. Still, it seems like I should spray quite a bit of anti-sweat spray on my face the night before. Okinawan kimonos require wearing multiple layers of clothing.

Today, Naminoue Shrine is as peaceful as ever. Perhaps because it’s a Wednesday afternoon, there aren’t many tourists here. It’s mostly visitors from Taiwan who come by.

This is Naminoue Beach. Perhaps because it’s Wednesday, there are fewer people swimming compared to Monday. Still, it’s quite pleasant for a swim at this level.

Over there, students are diving. The water is quite deep, but they swim out with ease. Students living near the sea are indeed a bit different.

Today’s Tomari Port has been captured in a slightly special way. It might be a while before these photos appear again. It’s a bit challenging to shoot. [Google Map]

This is the scene at Tomari Port in the late afternoon, with the blue sky and slightly hot sunshine. Typically, tourists don’t often visit here. Even if they do, they head straight from Tomari Port to Kokusai Street. There are many great eateries around here, which I’ll gradually introduce to you.

On my way home, I saw a man and a woman walking with parasols. The Okinawa sun is indeed scorching today, but not as intensely as it was on Monday or earlier. I think today’s heat is just right for enjoying the summer. I wish the summer’s intensity would stay just like this.

I’m on my way home after taking photos of the Okinawa weather. The sunlight was so beautiful that I captured a shot. Today, I went for a bike ride, and when I stopped, I wasn’t even sweating. It was truly a pleasant summer day, and I definitely feel there’s a big difference between 32 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius.

I had assorted sushi for dinner, but it wasn’t quite enough, so I brought back a zenzai. I really love Okinawa’s shaved ice zenzai. Below, there’s a great place for delicious zenzai that I recommend.

Tomorrow’s Okinawa Weather Forecast

Currently, there is a tropical depression cloud over the southern part of Okinawa. It seems that this cloud mass will not cross Okinawa but will move eastward. There might still be some indirect effects, with a forecast of 4.1mm of rain at an 83% probability. However, it is likely to be just a brief downpour or a short shower. If this forecast is accurate, you can enjoy your travels without much concern, as it would be a minor amount of rain.
Today, there was a forecast of 6.4mm of rain, but in reality, it did not rain. Also, there are currently no typhoons near Okinawa, nor any tropical depression clouds that might develop into a typhoon.
I have quite a few snap photography schedules in Okinawa over the weekend, so it mustn’t rain. If it rains… it will put me in a bad mood 😡
That’s all for today. I’ll wrap it up here and return with more Okinawa weather updates tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
