Weather in Okinawa on August 13th

Today, on the 13th of August, the weather in Okinawa was still very hot. However, it’s cooler than in Korea or mainland Japan, so as soon as people arrive in Okinawa, they often comment that it’s less hot than Korea and less hot than mainland Japan. Today, despite being under the very distant indirect influence of Typhoon No. 11, Bavi, there was a pleasantly cool breeze blowing. Although it was quite windy, it wasn’t uncomfortable; it was just the right amount to feel refreshing. The temperature reached a high of 32°C and a low of 28°C, so a parasol or sunscreen is definitely essential.

Okinawa Weather on 13th August
I set out a bit early this morning to head to the American Village. Originally, I planned to use a rental car again today, but wow… there isn’t a single rental car available. The rental rate is at 99%. There is one left, but it’s the largest Hiace vehicle, almost like a large van, and I felt a bit uncomfortable driving it. So, I decided to take the bus to the American Village today. Until the end of August, it’s the peak season, so rental cars are a bit pricey right now.
In front of American Village Gourmet Sushi. I took the bus and walked to this rather unique place. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend bus travel to everyone, I personally enjoy getting around by bus. It means I don’t have to drive, right? So during the journey, I ask AI about things I didn’t know and also write blog posts. I make very efficient use of my time. Anyway, it was around 9:40 in the morning, and it wasn’t too hot yet.
This is the view of Depot Island at 10:40 am. Even though it’s a Wednesday morning, there were quite a few people around. It seems to be because it’s the summer holiday season, as it looks quite different from mid-July. I often come to American Village for Okinawa snap photography work, you know. I visit at least three times a week. Usually, Wednesday mornings are quiet, but today was a bit different.
This is the view of Depot Island after all the snap photography in Okinawa. Until the 15th, during the full moon period, the water continues to recede. From the 16th, the water gradually comes in, making the depth increase. So, it’s currently a very safe time to enjoy water activities.
I’m on my way home after having lunch. It’s quite hot now that it’s noon. Still, Okinawa might be the coolest place in Japan, you know? The reason is that Okinawa is alternately affected by and free from the North Pacific High. In contrast, Korea and the Japanese mainland are simultaneously influenced by the North Pacific High and the Tibetan High, which effectively blocks the inflow of cold air. Okinawa is hot too, but it’s definitely less so than Korea. Plus, there’s a lot of wind here.
This is the view of the Miebashi River. Today, I filmed from a slightly different spot than usual. Since I often travel by bus, the filming locations tend to be unique. I heard that the reason the Miebashi River in Naha drains water in the morning is due to the low tide, and they deliberately release the water because of the tidal differences. I’m pleased to have learned something new about Naha’s system today.
This is the scene in front of Makishi Market on Kokusai Street in the late afternoon. There are quite a few tourists. It’s quite a lot for a Wednesday. Since I didn’t go to the Naha west coast today, I wondered if the Costa Serena cruise hadn’t left yet… perhaps due to the typhoon? Anyway, Typhoon No. 11, Bualu, has become completely irrelevant to Okinawa.

About 10 minutes a day? Due to the scattered nature of the rain, Japan Weather News might not consider this as rain, whereas AccuWeather opts to display a rain icon. AccuWeather shows a rain icon even if the expected precipitation is just 0.5mm, as seen in the screenshot. While AccuWeather might be more accurate, if you approach it with the idea that sporadic showers don’t count as rain, then Japan Weather News is correct. Personally, I don’t even consider sporadic showers as rain, so I’ve been referencing Japan Weather News more often than AccuWeather lately.
