Weather in Okinawa on August 18th
🌦️ Haisai! This is CULT.
Today in Okinawa, Typhoon Lingling No. 12 has suddenly developed, causing a bit of confusion in the group chat and open chat. I also heard about the sudden development of the typhoon this morning and have been keeping a close eye on it. Okinawa is expected to be directly hit, but it’s a weak typhoon, so it might be best not to plan any water activities for tomorrow. I’ll continue discussing Typhoon Lingling No. 12 in tomorrow’s weather forecast below,
Okinawa Weather Video on 18th August
Here is today’s weather video from Okinawa. There were a few light showers, but they were so minor that there was no need to worry. Perhaps because it was a Monday, there weren’t many people at Umikaji Terrace. So, a lot of the weather footage was taken there. It only lasts a few seconds, but it gives you a sense of what summer in Okinawa is like. Of course, tomorrow Typhoon Lingling is passing by, so it will be very cloudy and windy, won’t it?

This is the view from Miebashi this morning. The weather is very clear, and a gentle breeze helped to offset the heat from the humidity. I met some visitors from Korea today, and they mentioned that it’s hotter there than in Okinawa. It seems the difference lies in Korea’s urban humidity compared to Okinawa’s constantly refreshing humidity.
Umikaji Terrace

After finishing my morning tasks, I stopped by Umikaji Terrace for a bit. Even the cat seemed to find the day hot, hiding under a car. This car must have been parked for a while, as the ground underneath seems cool. Although it’s morning, the sunlight is quite intense.

The tide is still low, so the sea water has receded quite a bit. Since it’s past August 15th, the water is gradually rising, but we’ll need to wait a few more days for high tide. By the way, there are people enjoying marine sports in the distance. The wind was just right at this time, making it a perfect environment for enjoying such sports.

This is Island Popo. It’s a place that sells desserts, but it hasn’t been uploaded to Cultravel yet. It’s delicious there. I still have more programmes to create, so once testing is complete, I’ll share lots of travel information with you!

This is the view from the second floor of Umikaji Terrace. I call that café the Michelcos Café. The mint colour is lovely, so I often shoot there when working on Okinawa snaps. The photos of Umikaji Terrace are incredibly beautiful, but not many people know about it. We don’t particularly emphasise it either, as there are already many reservations.
Naha City Centre

I’m on my way back after finishing work. In front of the Makishi Market on Kokusai Street… there seem to be fewer tourists today. It might be because it’s still before lunchtime, and since I worked from home in the afternoon, I’m not too sure about what happened after that. Also, I went out in the evening. Anyway… perhaps because it was close to lunchtime, the sunlight was quite intense.

I was curious about what kind of building would be erected in the centre of Kokusai Street, but in the end, it’s just another car park. Given its prime location, it must be quite expensive. It’s a bit disappointing that there’s just another asphalt ground added in this hot place, though.

Tomorrow, heavy rain is expected in Okinawa, so water is continuously being released into the Miebashi River. We need to prepare for the downpour. I’ll capture and show you tomorrow’s weather as well.

And because the weather was hot, I enjoyed a refreshing Okinawa Zenzai today as well. It’s delicious, but surprisingly, not many people know about it. This is the convenience store version, but the tastiest one is from Fujiya.

And this is the evening view. There’s a light drizzle, but it’s not raining heavily yet. They said it would rain a lot starting tomorrow morning, and it seems we’re already starting to feel its effects. The breeze is gently blowing as well.
Expected Path and Forecast of Typhoon Lingling No. 12

This is the predicted path of Typhoon Lingling No. 12. It is expected to continue raining from tomorrow morning until the afternoon. Since the scale is small and the intensity is weak, it seems more likely that flights will be delayed rather than cancelled. It looks like it will rain almost all day tomorrow. Additionally, weather forecasts from different countries are quite divided on whether Typhoon Lingling No. 12 will head towards Korea or turn towards China. There is still a North Pacific high-pressure system over Korea and mainland Japan, which could weaken the typhoon or cause it to curve. [Source: Weather News Japan]

This is the 10-day weather forecast for Okinawa. During Typhoon No. 11, the mainland was unaffected, and Ishigaki and Miyakojima were slightly impacted, but this time it’s the Okinawa mainland that’s affected. On the 19th, if the chance of rain in the Naha area is 80%, you can consider it as practically 100%. Weather agencies usually announce a 100% chance of rain as about 80%.
It’s expected to rain all day with reduced sunlight, so the temperature will be 3-4 degrees lower than usual, and it will be quite windy. It might be nice to just relax at the hotel, or you could visit a large shopping mall to play games or shop. Personally, I recommend the San-A Parco City mall.
Tomorrow, I have some outdoor work, so I’ll take some weather photos and videos and upload them a bit earlier. This is the first typhoon I’ve experienced since living in Okinawa, so I’m quite excited. I’ll wrap it up here and will be back with more Okinawa weather updates tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
