Weather in Okinawa on July 18th
☀️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today’s weather in Okinawa was quite extreme. It was one of those days where torrential rain would suddenly pour from a clear sky, repeatedly. I have a form where I need to summarise the weather in one line each time, and it always makes me ponder whether to say it was sunny or rainy. However, since it was mostly sunny throughout the day, I’ve classified it as a sunny day. The temperature reached a high of 33°C and a low of 28°C, making it quite a hot day.
Also, in group chats or open chats, there are people who put too much faith in AI weather forecasts. AI finds it challenging to specialise in weather forecasting because different meteorological organisations have varying opinions on whether a storm will develop into a typhoon or not. AI aggregates all these opinions, making it impossible to reach a conclusion, resulting in odd answers.
We’ll need to wait another 2-3 days to see if a typhoon will hit Okinawa next week.
Currently, Typhoon Wipha is moving further away from Okinawa.
Okinawa Weather as You Head North

This morning’s view of Miebashi. The weather was very beautiful and pleasant. It was quite cool at around 28 degrees Celsius. It was just before 8 a.m.

Before coming here, I passed through Onna Village… It was raining heavily. As I was driving, it was difficult to take photos or videos, and it poured so intensely for about 10 minutes that there was no time to record it. By the way, with the sudden torrential downpours lately, many people are looking for T-shirts… At convenience stores in Okinawa, you can find T-shirts sold separately like this.

This is Sesoko Bridge. I took a photo while waiting at the signal, and it seems they’re campaigning over there too. In Okinawa, election campaigns feel more like earthquakes than actual earthquakes.
Bise Fukugi and Bisezaki

Today, I arrived in the northern part of Okinawa for a snap shoot. There weren’t many people around for a Friday. It seems the news of the typhoon has reduced the number of tourists. But… Typhoon No. 6, Wipha, is heading towards Vietnam. Anyway, Typhoon No. 7 hasn’t even appeared yet. I’ll keep you updated if there are any changes.

Fukugi House, this is the meeting place. I’ve taken a separate photo intending to use it as a permanent reference.

Wow.. I encountered a hermit crab during the shoot, and it’s the first time I’ve seen one this big. It’s as large as those in the Okinawa World Biodiversity Museum. If you visit Bise Fukugi now, you can see many of these creatures. There’s also a peculiar lizard with a yellow stripe, an emerald body, and a blue tail. Currently in Motobu… there are an incredible number of lizards.

Over there is Emerald Beach. It’s a peculiar area where it seems to rain like crazy every time I approach to take photos. That’s also why I haven’t written an introduction about it despite visiting often. I try to capture it in pretty pictures, you see.

This is the view of the Bisezaki Sea. I was worried because it rained heavily when passing through Onna Village and Nago, but the weather was very clear during the shoot. It was quite hot as well. There were also many people snorkelling at Bisezaki. Although I generally advise against self-snorkelling, Bisezaki is relatively safe due to its shallow waters.

On the way back to the car park after the shoot, I took a photo. There are many quaint buildings like this in Bise Fukugi. I also had some zenzai.

We’re back at the car. The weather is quite warm. This is a vehicle you can rent for 5,000 yen a day. 10% discount coupon AOSORA_CULT1

Perhaps it’s because I parked on the asphalt… it’s showing 36 degrees. I just had some zenzai, but as soon as I got into the car, it feels like all the coolness of the zenzai has vanished.

I’m visiting a country road again to cover a restaurant. They said it would take 20 minutes for the food to be ready, so I stepped out to take a quick photo of the Okinawa weather.
Heading Down to the Central Region

We had just finished our meal and were on the move when it suddenly started pouring down with rain. It was coming down so heavily that visibility was significantly reduced.
In Okinawa, it’s quite common for heavy rain to suddenly pour from a clear sky. This is typical of the summer weather here. So, just take shelter from the rain for a while, and then you can continue with your sightseeing.

Come to think of it, I drove for a total of six hours today, and I was so tired that I came to have a drink. Koda Service Area is great, but the downside seems to be the lack of zero-calorie drinks. It seems Japan as a whole isn’t very interested in zero-calorie beverages…

Koda Service Area is a pride of Okinawa. It’s famous because all the food here is delicious. I’ve taken photos of almost all the food they sell here, and I’ll organise them and upload them again soon.

This is Ryukyu Hachisha Kingung. I came here to take some necessary photos. This is already my third visit recently. It’s Friday afternoon, and as expected, there are no tourists. Now, my schedule in the northern part of Okinawa is complete, and I’m heading south.
Central and Southern Okinawa

I’ll take the remaining photos at Futenma Shrine.
I need to finish the Ryukyu Palsa content, but I was unable to do so due to a lack of photos. Now everything is ready. Next week will be a week dedicated to writing diligently.

I’ve returned to Miebashi, Naha. After this, I didn’t really see much rain. I took a nap around 7 PM and woke up after midnight, and the roads seemed a bit damp, so it looks like it rained a little.

It seems like today is quite a special day. The Lawson regional lunch-only bento is still available, and they’re offering a 200 yen discount. Usually, these sell out by lunchtime, so it’s rare to see them on sale. It’s a great opportunity, but since I had fried food for lunch, I’m not really in the mood for more fried food.

In the end, I finish the evening with zenzai. It’s almost become a staple for me, this refreshing zenzai. In Korea, there’s a famous shaved ice franchise called Sulbing, and honestly, it’s tastier. However, Sulbing is quite expensive, whereas zenzai is more affordable and therefore much more accessible.
Weather Forecast

Currently, Typhoon Wipha, the 6th of the season, is moving from the Philippines towards Vietnam. It has no impact on Okinawa. A few days ago, on July 23rd, a lot of rain was expected, but the forecast has changed to less than 5-10mm. According to the forecast, there is no significant rain expected in Okinawa until the end of July. Even if it does rain, it is expected to be brief, sporadic showers like today. The sky clears up quickly, so there’s no need to worry too much. However, as the weather is hot these days, tropical depressions can form suddenly, so I’ll keep you updated.
That’s all for today’s weather update from Okinawa. I’ll be back with more Okinawa weather news tomorrow. Matayasai 👋
