Weather in Okinawa on July 21st
👋 Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today’s weather in Okinawa was quite a mixed bag. It was sunny, then there were showers, it turned cloudy, and there were strong winds, showing a very complex weather pattern. The temperature ranged from a high of 30°C to a low of 27°C, so it didn’t feel particularly hot. However, due to a high wave warning caused by the strong winds, ferry operations were suspended, leading to many cancellations for those who had booked tours to Minnajima.
Around Kokusai Street from Miebashi

This is the scene from Miebashi during lunchtime today. I worked through the night again, so I don’t have any morning scenes, but just by looking at the streets, you can tell it rained a bit in the morning. I opened the window for some fresh air, and today’s Okinawa air wasn’t too hot.

Today, I went out to capture some photos of the Okinawa weather. This is a scene from Kokusai Street, and unlike yesterday, there were quite a lot of tourists today. It was a bit surprising to see so many tourists on a Monday, as it’s usually a day when the number of tourists tends to drop.

The traffic on Kokusai Street was so heavy that I turned into a side street. This way, I keep exploring every nook and cranny to find places for a food tour.

Today, instead of having a convenience store Okinawa zenzai, I’ve come to enjoy a proper frappe. This place is called Cafe Y’s, and it’s one of my favourites. I highly recommend you visit it too [Google Map]

This is how you can enjoy the Shirokuma Frappe. I love that there’s a generous amount of ice. The price is 800 yen. Besides that, the breakfast is delicious and the lunch menu is excellent too. In my opinion, it’s the best café in Okinawa.

Photos of Okinawa Weather Taken on Route 58 and the West Coast

While I was enjoying a frappe at the café, it started to rain. Strangely, it seems to rain only when I go indoors today. As I continue to move towards the west coast, I can feel the wind getting stronger. In Naha, there are many buildings, so you don’t really feel the wind on Kokusai Street.

After having lunch at Mikado, I came out to find that it had rained again while I was eating. I wanted to capture the scene of the rain and people walking with umbrellas in a photo, but unfortunately, the rain seemed to avoid me.

Since it’s not raining, I capture the sight of people passing by with parasols.
The Chinese language sounded high-pitched and sharp, so they probably seemed like a group of Chinese tourists.

This is the view of Fukushuen after the rain. Although it’s not an extremely popular tourist spot, quite a few visitors were going in.

And Naminoue Shrine… Wow, today seemed to be the busiest I’ve ever seen it with tourists. It was really bustling.

Now, let’s move to the west coast of Okinawa. The wind is certainly strong, making it very refreshing. For your information, it’s raining on the right side of the horizon in this photo.

This is Naminoue Beach, and there were significantly more people swimming here than on a typical Monday. It seems like there are even more swimmers than last weekend.

I was wondering why there are so many tourists today, and then I realised it’s the day the cruise Costa Serena docks. With the blue alert issued, they probably won’t be able to set sail today. So, it seems everyone is planning to stay out late in Naha city.
Currently, the booking rates for snorkelling and rental cars are quite high.

This is Tomari Port, where usually only one ship should be docked, but currently, all three are anchored at the port. A wave warning has been issued for 24 hours, so no departures are allowed until 3 PM tomorrow. However, if the warning is lifted before then, departures can proceed.

Take a snapshot of the splendid Okinawan weather from Tomari Port. The clouds are quite contrasting, aren’t they?

I went to do some shopping, but since I didn’t really need anything at home and was quite comfortable, I ended up just browsing the supermarket and leaving.

While I was out doing some shopping, it seems another shower passed by. It’s clear that the rain is avoiding me today.

When I arrived near my home, there was a very light drizzle. I was hoping for a heavy rain at last, but it stopped immediately. So, in the end, I only captured images of people using parasols again.

The Miebashi River is quite high, which also means that there is no heavy rain expected in the next few days. For now, I have a lot of bookings for Okinawa Snap this weekend, so it mustn’t rain.
Okinawa Weather Forecast

Let’s take a look at the weather forecast.
Initially, there was a possibility of Typhoon Francisco forming between the 26th and 28th, but the chance of rain has decreased again compared to yesterday. Currently, it seems there will be less than 6mm of rain, so it doesn’t look like there will be much rain, let alone a typhoon. It might just be a situation with strong winds, but the probability of rain and the expected rainfall are both decreasing day by day, so it seems unlikely that I’ll be observing a typhoon this time either.

Currently, there is a very large and strong high-pressure system developing over the North Pacific. This high pressure is blocking the tropical depression coming up from the south of Okinawa, so the tropical cloud mass that was expected to become Typhoon Francisco No. 7 is now in pieces. Of course, since typhoons can develop whenever the sea water heats up, it’s too early to make any assumptions.
Personally, I don’t think there will be a typhoon next week. Of course, I will upload the forecast every day.
That’s all for today. I’ll wrap it up here and come back tomorrow with more weather news from Okinawa. Matayasai 👋
