Weather in Okinawa on July 2nd
☀️ Haisai! I’m CULT.
Today, the weather in Okinawa was still hot, but it didn’t feel particularly scorching. I didn’t even turn on the air conditioner. The fan was enough, and perhaps because the wind was quite strong all day, it didn’t feel as hot. Especially in the evening, it felt somewhat cool. The highest temperature was 33°C, and the lowest was 26°C.
The Sights of Miebashi and Kokusai Street

This is what it looked like around 8 o’clock this morning. Well, these days the mornings always feel fresh. The clouds seem a bit light, don’t they? As the afternoon progresses, the clouds tend to resemble an over-piled soft ice cream, which is a typical weather pattern in Okinawa. Anyway, in the morning, it feels like there’s less soft serve piled up.

It’s around 8 in the morning, so there are many people commuting to work. Some are wearing long clothes. If you don’t like applying sunscreen all over, wearing long clothes might be a good option. In Okinawa, the wind blows all day, making the perceived humidity lower, so wearing long clothes should be fine. But I don’t like it. However, I did wear long clothes today because of a meeting.

I applied for a rental car today… It arrived a bit late, so I parked it in a somewhat distant car park and am on my way back. These days, rental cars are delivered free of charge right to the front of your hotel or accommodation. However, for Ameville, there’s an additional charge of 5,500 yen 😀

I’m on my way to a meeting. Although it’s all in Japanese with legal jargon that I can’t understand at all, I have a good sense of what we need to do. By the way, I’m feeling quite warm wearing long clothes and black trainers for the meeting, as I’m usually in shorts, a T-shirt, and slippers.

This is what Kokusai Street looks like around 3 PM after the meeting. It certainly feels quite hot at this time. I quickly went home to change into a T-shirt, shorts, and slippers before heading out for some coverage in the south.
Okinawa Weather: Torrential Showers

I need to go to cover Himeyuri, but there’s a torrential downpour. When you usually check the weather in Okinawa, it often shows rain on the monthly chart, right? This is the kind of rain it refers to. It’s so intense that you might wonder if there’s a hole in the sky for about 10 minutes. If you look at the top right of the photo, you can see the blue sky, right? It varies each time, but from my experience, the rain is concentrated in a circular area of about 500 metres in diameter. Outside of that area, it’s as sunny as you see.
Anyway, since it rained, the weather forecast was correct, and once you leave this area… it gets hot again.
And in the open chat… there was someone weird trying to stir things up by talking about a typhoon… but the formation of that typhoon is… too far from Okinawa. What typhoon…

The sky is incredibly beautiful, as if it never rained. This is in front of the Himeyuri Memorial. It’s also the widest pedestrian crossing in Okinawa. [Google Map]

I’m on my way out after covering the Himeyuri Peace Museum. It felt very much like the Japanese countryside, so I captured a shot.

It’s a slightly risky place, but if you want to capture everything Okinawa has to offer, you have to take the plunge. I plan to write a separate post about this place later. I’m starting to pyramid the data, so please bear with the somewhat dull content that will be coming up for a while. Anyway, there’s no subscription feature, so you won’t be missing out 🤣
By the time the subscription feature is added, there probably won’t be any more dull content left to introduce in Okinawa, so don’t worry.

While driving, I got caught at a traffic light… and I took another shot of the beautiful sky. Okinawa’s summer presents a sky that looks like a painting every single day.
Senaga Island Umikaji Terrace

After clearing a few pieces of content in the south, I’ve come to Umikaji Terrace. Once the pyramid-style content accumulates to a certain extent, I’ll write something new, but for that, I’m visiting to gather photos and data regularly. It’s a bit hot, but it definitely feels less hot than last week. Today, the wind was particularly strong.

That’s Island Popo. It’s a dessert shop that hasn’t yet moved from Naver Blog. It’s quite a nice place. [Naver Blog]

Umikaji Terrace is famous for sitting at these tables, enjoying snacks while watching the sunset. It’s a bit hot now, but it’s perfect in autumn or winter.

I come here quite often, but this is the first time I’ve seen it. An ice terrace… It’s a similar concept to the ice pubs in Prague.
Inside, it’s minus 10 degrees, and you can enjoy a refreshing drink. All the staff are wearing parkas. In this heat?
If you’re looking for something fresh, you might want to give it a visit. The entrance fee seemed to be 500 yen. I’ll try to visit if I get the chance.

This is the side view of Umikaji Terrace, a composition I often use when doing snap photography in Okinawa. There are a lot of trees and plants growing on the left side, so I checked out the spot to see how I might photograph it better next time.

After finishing a post about a great restaurant, I spent some time playing with the nearby cats until sunset. It seems the cats are aware of the heat as they were all staying in the shade.

This is the view at sunset. With the breeze blowing, it definitely didn’t feel hot anymore.

If this were a Naver blog, uploading duplicate photos would result in a penalty in SEO, but with this blog, you can reuse these photos later when introducing Umikaji Terrace. It feels so wonderful, like moving from the IT Galapagos to Silicon Valley 🥰

I originally intended to use this as the thumbnail for today’s Okinawa weather post, but my blog tends to crop the bottom part of images quite a bit. The bottom of the text might get slightly cut off. So, it’s a no-go.
It doesn’t actually rain that much, but since I don’t have many photos of rain, I decided to use a rainy photo as the thumbnail.

This is the view of the setting sun.
The sunset was stunning, but the magic hour was rather ordinary. I noticed quite a few photography enthusiasts around here. Japan is certainly a country where romance and sentiment still thrive.

This is a photo I considered using as a thumbnail. The purple Hustler car fits quite well, doesn’t it? It somehow gives off a Southern European vibe. If only there had been a Fiat 500 parked there, it would have been the perfect Southern European scene…

I’m keeping this as a weather photo of Okinawa for future use. It was definitely taken on 2nd July 2025. I always post weather updates using photos taken on the actual day. If I’m late, I upload them by midnight the next day. It’s a habit from doing this for 11 years 😋

It seems I’ve ended up with an aerial photograph.
What I’ve realised from continuously taking photos from the same spot and angle is that when planes land, they do so at almost the exact same location with very little deviation in angle and height. It was fascinating. I didn’t move the angle, yet they land in the exact same spot.

The sunset shoot is over, and the magic hour doesn’t seem like it will be particularly beautiful, so I’m heading back. The shops at Umikaji Terrace are also starting to close.

As I approached the parked car, I noticed a couple enjoying the Okinawa sunset, so I snapped a picture. Indeed, we’ve decided to call this romance.

Today, although not for the entire day, I spent about half a day out in the scorching sun, so I’m feeling a bit overheated. Therefore, there are no night photos. There are so many articles I need to write… it’s a bit overwhelming to keep up with everything.
Anyway, that’s all for today’s weather in Okinawa. It doesn’t seem like the typhoon will head towards Okinawa, but I’ll keep a close watch, and if there are any changes, I’ll let you know. See you again tomorrow with more Okinawa weather updates. Matayasai 👋
