HighlightsOnce the kids start playing, I get mom and dad to join in. This was a trip to celebrate a 70th birthday, so I gave the grandparents a little more time in front of the camera.
Things to NoteI'm not currently taking bookings for Okinawa photo shoots, and I haven't set a date to resume them.

The shoot starts at the beach by the entrance to Bise Fukugi.
I tried starting with walking against the sky. They were on a trip to celebrate a 70th birthday, and I’ve had quite a few shoots lately on trips celebrating the older generation’s milestones.

The family stands alongside the children against the sky in this vertical shot.

Usually on these shoots.. people ask me to focus on their parents, and to me, this is what that looks like.
Because.. grandparents don’t show their friends photos of themselves. They show off photos with their grandchildren.

The children pet a cat.

This is Injeolmi, who lives by the entrance to Bisezaki. This cat loves being petted. Cats usually don’t like kids, but this one likes them too.

The extended family walks together along the coastal breakwater path.

I keep taking photos along the coast as the family walks toward Bisezaki Beach. It’s a candid shot.

An adult carries a child on their shoulders on the breakwater path in this vertical shot.

Quickly grab a shot like this too.

The grandfather carries a child as he walks with the family along the coastal path.

I’ve already got a reputation for never directing anyone.. but I do. Just not very often.

An adult and a child walk hand in hand on the sand in this vertical shot.

I usually ask them to do this.
Grandfathers tend to be.. um.. a little hesitant around their grandchildren, you see? They’re happy to ask their own kids to do things, but I’ve noticed they don’t ask much of their grandchildren.. So I keep telling the kids to take their grandfather’s hand and walk over.

The grandparents and children stand on the beach.

They’re exchanging fist bumps.
These really are the kind of photos that won’t look awkward even in 50 years.

The family walks toward the camera through the shallow water.

By about that age, boys.. start finding it less fun to play with mom and dad, so they played badminton, something they could still enjoy together.

The children and adults play with the sand.

I’m a bit.. my shoots are all about the kids, with mom and dad firmly in supporting roles.
Once the kids start playing, I photograph them at play and bring mom and dad in. Time to play with the kids.

Two people walk along the shore.

Well.. I do take photos of the grandparents on their own too.

The children and grandparents crouch on the sand and play.

Again, I get everyone involved. The grandparents are the stars today, so although the kids matter too, I’m giving the grandparents a little more time in front of the camera.

The family stands together with Ie Island across the sea behind them.

It would be strange if a shoot with kids went perfectly.

The family walks along, holding the grandmother's and the child's hands.

I wonder what’s got them so happy.

I took this as they walked along the wooded path.

The oldest keeps messing around and is getting told off by grandpa. So from here on, the oldest looks unhappy in all the photos.

This is the main photo from the Bise Fukugi path. Isn’t it a lovely wooded path?

A child crouches on the coastal path.

There’s a short wait while the surprise is being set up.

The family claps during an award ceremony by the sea.

An award ceremony to celebrate a 70th birthday.
I told them to clap 🙂

The grandmother and grandfather hold a bouquet.

Something like this makes a nice change for a 70th birthday. I’d known about it since the booking consultation, so I planned to photograph it once we’d walked about this far..
The grandparents seemed to have no idea until just beforehand.

Proposals and things like that.. were possible too, with advance notice. I’ve photographed plenty of surprise proposals, so I know how to keep a woman’s intuition from giving the game away.

Today’s thumbnail photo.

“Go over to grandma,”
I said, and off the little one ran..

And here’s how the shoot wraps up.

Wishing you continued good health and a long life.
