Cukrárna Alchymista: Garden Cakes in Prague

Past the old-world interior lies the flower-filled garden at Cukrárna Alchymista

Dobrý den! I’m CULT.
Today I’d like to show you a lovely café in Prague. It’s in the Prague 7 district, near Letná Park (Letenské sady), one of the city’s best-known parks. If you have time to spare on your trip, I recommend stopping by.

The old-fashioned Cukrárna Alchymista sign is decorated with hanging flowerpots.

PriceTwo drinks and three slices of cake: 590 CZK (July 2024 prices)
ProsBoth cheesecakes were so delicious that I ordered a slice of chocolate cake too. I liked the old-world interior, but the flower-filled outdoor garden was my favorite.
ConsThe drinks took a while to arrive, and 590 CZK for two drinks and three slices of cake was quite expensive for the Prague 7 district.

It’s on the edge of the Prague 7 district, right next to the Prague 6 district. In other words,, this is a wealthy neighborhood. Still, by around 3 p.m. on weekdays, there are plenty of people who look like mothers, along with families bringing their kids after school. So it’s best to book a table even on weekdays.

I haven’t been at every time of day, but all the staff spoke good English when I visited.

Antique furniture and bookshelves furnish the café interior near the entrance.

As soon as you walk in, the place feels very old-world. Walk through here,,

The café room has yellow curtains and blue walls.

And this is what you find inside.
It’s the sort of scene where you can picture Vincent van Gogh sitting indoors in a straw hat, absinthe in one hand and a cigar in the other.

Customers sit beneath a chandelier inside the café.

How shall I put it,, the owner here.. has somewhat.. eccentric tastes.
Unsurprisingly,, most of the customers here are women.

Green plants surround the tables in the outdoor garden.

My favorite spot was outdoors.
There’s a rabbit enclosure at the bottom right, and flowers everywhere.

Wooden tables and chairs stand in the garden.

Flowers galore!
Longtime readers of my blog will know that I got into photography because I wanted to photograph flowers.
It felt so much like being right in the middle of a flower garden that I went and sat in a corner.

A garden sign hangs beside the entrance on an iron gate.

A gate that serves no purpose,, you can go around the side to get in, but that side is a marionette museum, not the café. Don’t go in there.

Purple flowers bloom in the garden.

I love all the flowers here. They’re everywhere you look.

The menu features an illustration in the style of Alphonse Mucha.

It had only been an hour or two since I’d eaten, so I wasn’t very hungry. I ordered cake for dessert.

A vase and two slices of cheesecake sit on a garden table.

Ta-da~ Two slices of cheesecake. They’re 8.5 times as tasty as Starbucks’ New York cheesecake.

Two slices of cheesecake are served on plates.

They’re pretty good, so try a slice if you visit.

A fork holds a bite of greenish cheesecake.

Highly recommended 😀

Pink and purple flowers bloom in the flower bed.

Lots of flowers also means lots of bees,, but with so many flowers around, they didn’t come near the food. Why go for cake when there are flowers ~_~

Lemonade and an iced cappuccino are served.

The drinks took their time arriving: lemonade and an iced cappuccino.
Well,, the coffee was about what you’d expect,, but that so-called lemonade was full of nothing but raspberries,,

A slice of chocolate cake is dusted with cocoa powder.

Both kinds of cheesecake were so, so delicious,, I ordered another slice of cake.

The table number marker for table 10 has a QR code on it.

You can pay at the counter, and apparently through an app too. No need to sit around waiting to pay.
For a café that looks like it might be stuck in the past, its payment system is actually ahead of everyone else.. -_-;;

Customers sit on garden chairs beside the rabbit enclosure.

I thought I hadn’t photographed the rabbit, but there it is in the bottom left corner. This would be a nice place to bring the kids, and Sparta’s football stadium (AC Sparta Praha) is just outside. You could come after watching a match… actually, maybe not. This café is so popular that by the time the match ends, the girlfriends will probably have claimed every seat..

The receipt lists two drinks and cake, totaling 590 CZK.

Two drinks and 3 slices of cake came to 590 CZK. That was quite expensive for the Prague 7 district. I suppose being that popular means they can charge that much.

If you’re staying in Prague for a while, do stop by.

Prague’s official tourism website lists the address as Jana Zajíce 7 and the opening hours as 13:00–19:30 every day, year-round (checked November 2, 2026). I found no reports of it closing down. The prices in this article are from my July 2024 visit, so please check current prices before you go.
