Geoje restaurants: Baramui Hotdog Main Branch
Corn dogs with the kids, with yellow walls and blue skies
Hi, I’m CULT.
Today I’m visiting Baramui Hotdog (바람의 핫도그). It’s a regional franchise you’ll occasionally come across in Geoje or Tongyeong. As far as I know, it’s only found around here, so I think it’s worth a visit if you’re from out of town. For starters.. Geoje and Tongyeong have so many foods that are.. a bit tricky to eat with kids. There’s so much seafood everywhere you go.
The parking lot is pretty spacious, and the brightly colored walls in the backyard make a lovely backdrop for photos, so I recommend a visit if you’re with the kids.
Location
It’s farther south than the cable car, so you can visit Windy Hill (Baramui Eondeok:바람의 언덕) before coming here.

Sat–Sun 09:00–19:30
It’s in southern Geoje, so it’s quite a way out. It’s farther south than the cable car, so one option is to ride the cable car, head a little farther south to see Windy Hill, and then come here for a meal. The Baramui Hotdog at Windy Hill has closed, so come to this branch if you want to eat.

This is what the restaurant building looks like. I didn’t take a photo of the parking lot, but there was enough room to park several large buses. Looking around while I ate, I got the impression that the restaurant.. takes groups too. There are enough seats for all 45 people from a tour bus, so there’s no real need to worry about space.

This gives you an idea of the interior. The place is pretty spacious. There are plenty of seats on the outdoor terrace too, so find somewhere comfortable to sit and eat.

Today I’m trying the Baramui Hotdog Lunch. I wasn’t really sure what to have.. so I just ordered what was on the poster. The price: 14,000 KRW
Baramui Hotdog Lunch
There are lots of corn dogs tucked underneath, and I found it a bit much for one person.

This is the Baramui Hotdog Lunch.
It’s hard to judge from the photo, but the portion is a bit much for one person and slightly too little for two. You get fries, corn dogs, salad and more all together, with corn dogs making up the biggest share, of course.

This is how it looks from the side. I liked having lots of corn dogs tucked underneath. They’re the main attraction, after all.

Generally.. this is the sort of food Japanese people would like. Older diners have mixed feelings about it because it’s sweet. Living in Tongyeong, I’ve met all sorts of people and talked about Baramui Hotdog, and sure enough, older people don’t like it much. It’s popular with kids and younger people.
Well.. everything on the menu is in this style.. so the other dishes are probably similar.

It goes by different names in different countries. In Korea, it’s called a hot dog; in the US, a corn dog; and in Japan, an American dog.. In Europe, every place I know that sells this style of hot dog is.. a Korean restaurant.. so I’m not sure whether this kind of thing exists there.
In Europe, a hot dog is a sandwich with a sausage in a split bun.. I’ve really never seen this kind there.

There are two sauces drizzled over it too, giving you a little more variety in each bite.

The fries are thick-cut. Personally, I don’t like these. I just don’t like thick fries. For the record, the worst fries I’ve ever eaten were from KFC in Czechia. Just thinking about them is horrifying.
A good place for photos
Lower your phone in the backyard, and all you’ll get in the frame is the yellow wall and blue sky.

One thing about the Baramui Hotdog main branch.. there are lots of places to take photos. This is a pier.. except it isn’t a pier, just tables. The restaurant extends all the way out here. It’s fairly.. pretty big. You can sit there and eat.. but it was low tide, so there was a seafood smell coming from the sea.. Not a smell that goes particularly well with corn dogs..

You can also perch along the side and eat like this. A sunset meal would be nice.. but Korea sits at a rather awkward latitude in the Northern Hemisphere.. so sunset often coincides with closing time.. I’m not sure I can recommend it. The view out to sea from the restaurant faces due west, so in theory you can see the sunset.. but I think it’s better to watch it separately.

This is the restaurant’s backyard. This is part of Baramui Hotdog too. It’s painted a bright, solid yellow.. so it’s easy to take photos even with a phone.

There are sheep figures too, and if you look closely, you can see wear that looks as though kids have been sitting on them. It seems a lot of kids come here. I usually visit restaurants like this on weekdays when I don’t have a photo shoot. So it’s a little hard for me to tell how many kids actually visit. My weekends are incredibly busy.

This would be a lovely place to sit for a photo.
You might think the trees behind look a bit messy.. but lower your phone, and all you’ll get in the frame is the yellow wall and blue sky.

There are four chairs in a row, and I think a family of four sitting here together would make a lovely photo. The whole restaurant seems to have been designed with families with kids in mind.

This is the view from the far end. It looks huge from here. If you find time to visit Geoje, on a weekend or whenever, I recommend stopping by. As I said earlier.. it’s a better place to visit with kids than with older people.
Wrapping up..
I think it’s a better place for a meal with kids than with older people.
