A night at Gyeonghwa Station (경화역), where red berries came before the cherry blossoms

Hi, I’m author S.
These are family photos with a cherry blossom backdrop, taken during the 2026 Jinhae Gunhangje Festival.
The parents and baby I photographed this time are repeat customers too. About 80% of my customers since I started shooting in Korea have been repeat customers, which I guess comes from working hard. This one was a night shoot, and it has a different feel from a daytime shoot.

Changwon Family Photo Shoot Summary

This time I shot at night with a family I got to meet again.

HighlightsRather than staging anything, I photograph the baby playing just as he is. When the baby runs, I run too. This time the blossoms were the backdrop again.
Things to NoteI wanted to photograph them looking at the flowers, but the baby didn't even glance at them.

Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, Gyeonghwa Station

The shoot started at Gyeonghwa Station at night during the festival.

Mom walks with the baby along the cherry blossom path at Gyeonghwa Station.

Tra-la-la
As always, my photos lean strongly toward capturing things as they are rather than setting something up. That’s what people call a snap shoot.

The baby runs down the path beside the train, with mom following.

The baby had visited a strawberry farm for a hands-on activity earlier that day.. and all he could think about was red, round things. So whenever he saw anything round, he kept calling it a red berry.

The baby, mom and dad look at a white globe light.

These are just.. the unlit lights around Gyeonghwa Station.. and the baby loved them. Again, no staging; I photograph them playing with the baby just as they are.

Dad and mom walk with the baby under a tunnel of cherry blossoms.

All those trees up there are cherry trees.
Maybe because he’s a boy, he had no interest in the flowers at all. It’s something I’ve naturally picked up from photographing babies all the time. Girls respond when they see flowers, but nine out of ten boys don’t respond to flowers at all. So I don’t go out of my way to emphasize the flowers. Just the playing. I focus on what they’re doing.

Mom and dad walk along the cherry blossom path, holding the baby's hands.

Still looking for red berries..
Wow.. This is the moment he spotted a small shrub with a fingernail-sized red berry about 10 meters away. Wow.. how did he even find it?

The baby smiles broadly on dad's shoulders.

I thought he might take an interest in the cherry blossoms if he were up a little higher, so I put him on dad’s shoulders.. but he showed absolutely no interest in the flowers, not even 0.1 degrees ~_~;;
The main photos I’d planned to take were of him looking at the flowers.. but he wouldn’t even glance at them..
I mean, even when he was brought right up close to the flowers.. he acted as though they were invisible.. Boys are mostly like this.

Dad carries the baby on his shoulders, and both parents look up at the baby.

Still looking for a balloon.. They’re on the way to buy one, but there aren’t any..

Three family members sit side by side on a bench under a cherry tree.

He’s gripping the red berry he wanted in both hands.
Would he take an interest in the flowers if we did an activity collecting nectar from cherry blossoms or something?

Mom and dad sit on the bench with the baby between them.

That’s not a hand heart, that’s a hand holding a berry ^_^
Of course the child has to be the star, so I asked them to switch seats.

The baby holds his cheeks in front of a rope fence, with mom and dad beside him.

I just.. photograph him playing and having fun like this. The cherry blossoms are only the background

Mom and dad walk along the cherry blossom path with the baby riding on a parent's shoulders.

I tried once more to focus on the flowers, but failed

Mom makes eye contact with the baby in front of a prop at a photo spot.

More than the flowers.. there was a photo booth, and it had a red headband. He showed more interest in that..

Night Market

Even some cotton candy changed the baby’s expression.

The baby and parents are under the cherry blossoms holding rabbit-shaped cotton candy.

He begged for cotton candy and got it.. but ah.. he suddenly lost interest..

Mom and dad look at the baby in front of rabbit-shaped cotton candy.

He’s like someone refusing to accept a brand-new car, claiming it has a defect.
That rabbit-shaped cotton candy.. it’s expensive.. plain cotton candy is 5,000 KRW and the rabbit shape is 6,000 KRW..

The baby looks back in front of a night market stall.

It kind of.. feels like being at a local festival in Japan..

Dad holds cotton candy, and mom holds the baby.

Well.. some of you worry about how I could possibly shoot in a crowded place..
You really don’t need to worry. I’m used to shooting in crowds.

The family is holding cotton candy in the crowd at the night market.

The cotton candy that got rejected ended up being eaten entirely by dad alone.
I photograph moments like this too, so I can’t focus on eating. Sorry I couldn’t help..

Back at Gyeonghwa Station

I wrapped up by following the running baby.

The baby and mom sit on a chair with dad standing beside it.

There was a lone chair, so he ran over and sat in it.. well.. every little moment like this is a memory.

The baby runs beside the chair with a big smile.

And suddenly, he’s off
When the baby runs.. I run too.
Stamina is the most important thing for a photographer anyway.

The baby and mom have their arms raised under a cherry tree.

Jumping for the falling cherry blossoms..
The blossoms are here for everyone to enjoy, so I can’t knock any down either.. ;o;

Mom and dad kiss the baby under the cherry blossoms.

That’s how it ended!
We never did get the balloon he wanted, but I was able to leave you with a lot of lovely photos. Wishing you always good health and happiness! See you next time 😀
