I’m not currently taking bookings for photo shoots in Okinawa. These portfolio photos are from a family photo shoot at Moon Beach Palace in Okinawa on a day of on-and-off showers on September 14, 2025.

Hi, I’m author S.
Today I’m sharing another story about photo shoots in Okinawa. I have so many lovely photos from my time there.. that I plan to keep posting them from Korea too. Of course, I’m not taking Okinawa bookings 😀

Things to NoteWhen the showers keep coming and going, the beach takes up a smaller share of the shoot.

Hotel Garden and Terrace

When it rained, I photographed them as they looked around the hotel’s interior.

The family walks along a corridor in the hotel garden.

Moon Beach Palace.. has a garden inside the hotel, you know.
When I was taking this photo.. it was raining quite a bit. It’s summer.. and I know it’ll stop soon anyway, so I took a few quick shots of the family looking around the facilities inside.

The child walks hand in hand among the plants.

A child observing something makes for a great photo subject, doesn’t it?

The mother and father hold their child on the hotel terrace.

Moon Beach Palace is a convenient resort for a stay with a child. It’s not too far north.. it’s at the southern end of northern Okinawa, so it’s relatively close to the airport, and there are quite a few restaurants outside the hotel by northern Okinawa standards.

The family specifically asked to be photographed here.. so I tried shooting like this. The rain had stopped by then. The roof is open.. only over the staircase there, so when it rains, all the raindrops fall through there. You can tell just by looking at the photos.. ah, the rain had stopped.. which is why I could take these shots.

The child and mother smile on chairs on the terrace.

The rain stopped so we headed out.. but it was still drizzling lightly.. so we decide to sit on the terrace for a bit before going out.

The child and parents sit at a terrace table.

There’s nothing fancy about my photos. Just as things are, almost documentary

The family plays rock-paper-scissors at a table next to flowers.

These photos are from September 14, 2025.. so things have changed a bit since. After October.. I shifted even further toward a documentary style. I didn’t set this one up either; the family was just playing rock-paper-scissors and I photographed it. Photos turn out best when mom, dad and the child just do what they normally do.

The child and mother stick out their fists.

Well.. with kids, I think nothing makes for worse photos than trying to control them. Just photographing them doing whatever they want seems to give the prettiest results..

The family walks across the wet terrace after the rain.

The Beach After the Rain

The family headed out to the shore and played in the sand.

The rain stopped, so we head out to the beach.

The family walks along the water's edge on the beach.

Moon Beach Palace has a private beach. It’s free for hotel guests.. but people who only use the beach have to pay. The price turned out to be a bit steep..

The family walks along the beach under a cloudy sky.

I pushed the editing a little to make the weather look nicer in this photo. You can’t tell, can you?

Sand is piled on top of the family's feet.

The child put sand on their feet.. so I ask mom and dad to copy them. Shots like this need a bit of direction. My shooting style is always similar.. but I don’t build the shoot around mom and dad; I mostly follow what the child does. I think photos turn out best when the child is comfortable..

The family stands with the sea behind them.

It started raining again.. so we slowly make our way off the beach.

The family walks along the beach.

Normally, beach photos make up a large part of a shoot here.. but because of the rain, I took fewer of them that day. Still..

The child smiles and gestures on the beach.

I can shoot things like this.
Photographing kids is fun.. I think because it’s so unpredictable. The adults are worried because of the rain, but the child loves that it’s raining.. 😀

The child and dad run across the lawn.

We’re on our way to the chapel. It was my first time shooting at Moon Beach Palace that day, so I arrived an hour early, asked a resort staff member how I could shoot and where photography is prohibited, and scouted the places where it’s allowed in advance. The Moon Beach resort.. has relatively few no-photo zones.

The family crouches in front of lotus flowers.

There were water droplets on the lotus flowers, which looked quite pretty. The weather turned out really nice after that too. The weather record is.. below..

Wrapping Up on the Lawn

I followed the child as they ran off to find something fascinating.

The family comes walking across the lawn.

There’s something fascinating over there.. so off we run.
At American Village there are lots of people so I don’t really run.. but at a private hotel resort like this.. I run too. For kids, running shots are the best.

The family stands next to a jangseung guardian post sculpture.

It suddenly reminds me of my military service.. Those jangseung, the wooden guardian posts that Korean villages put up at their entrance, marked Cheonha Daejanggun and Jiha Daejanggun (Great General of the Heavens and Great General of the Earth)? One of the guys in my platoon was in line to carry on the craft of making these, and he used to say that if he ever became a Living Human Treasure he’d get rich.. that kind of thing comes to mind. But don’t they have these in Hawaii too? I’ve never been to Hawaii, so I wouldn’t know. Anyway, the child found it fascinating, so I took a few final photos of the child beside it.

That’s how I wrap up an Okinawa photo shoot. I can take plenty of photos like this in Tongyeong too, so I’ll share more with you.
