Prague weather in October
A colorful autumn — a great time for a family trip without worrying about the weather

Prague weather in October can be summed up in one word: “autumn.” While September mixes summer and autumn, October is a true autumn, when the leaves in Prague’s alleys turn red and yellow in various shades.
Temperatures are also in a comfortable, steady range — not too hot, not too cold, which makes it very pleasant for family travel with babies or older relatives. There are a few things to watch for, and I’ll explain those in detail.

In October the average temperature in Prague is around 11°C, but in practice daytime temperatures of 15–20°C are common. Daylight is still reasonable through much of October, but after daylight saving time ends in late October the days get noticeably shorter.
If you want a trip that’s neither too hot nor too cold, October — along with May — is one of the best times to visit Prague.
How should you dress?
All photos in this post were taken in October. They show what people actually wore that month. For clothing, the basic approach is thin, long layers with an outer coat. A lightweight down jacket or a wool coat is usually enough. When I was in Prague in October for outdoor activities I mostly wore a hoodie and jeans. I can’t remember wearing a coat much — carrying a camera and walking all day, it was more comfortable to move freely.
If you’re joining a guided tour, bring slightly warmer clothes, because standing still while listening to a guide lowers your body temperature.
Characteristics of October weather?
It does rain in Prague in October. It’s not as rainy as summer, but unlike summer, rainy days often stay overcast instead of clearing up quickly into a pretty sky. Also, rain when temperatures are already low makes it feel colder. Summer rain you can sometimes walk through without worry, but after October I recommend taking an umbrella rather than getting wet — autumn rain in Prague can make you catch a cold.
Another feature that appears from October is fog.
When I spend whole days shooting outdoors in Prague, fog can affect photography. Visibility becomes very short, so, as you can see, St. Vitus Cathedral isn’t clearly visible. Usually this fog occurs in the morning and disappears by the afternoon.

Fog usually doesn’t form at midday; it often appears in the early morning when temperatures change, or around evening as the sun is setting. When fog forms there is typically no wind, so it can actually feel less cold.
Autumn in Prague
Although daylight decreases and temperatures drop day by day in Prague in October, there are special scenes you can only see at this time thanks to the yellow and red leaves around the city. Even just around Prague Castle you can fully enjoy the autumn atmosphere. By late October most leaves have fallen, so I recommend visiting by mid-October to enjoy Prague in autumn. Summary of Prague weather in October
October in Prague is a suitable time to travel for people of all ages. Temperatures aren’t extreme, so babies and older adults usually don’t have problems. You can also enjoy colorful autumn scenery. A downside is that fog can occur on some low-probability days, but most Korean travelers stay 3–4 nights or 4–5 nights in Prague, so fog rarely disrupts an entire itinerary.

- In Prague in October, it’s rare for rain to fall all day even when it does rain. Unlike in summer, the sky doesn’t often clear up immediately after a shower, so you’ll frequently see overcast skies. I don’t think rain will seriously disrupt your travel plans.
- Company responses vary, so it's best to contact the company you booked with; well-known companies will usually offer to reschedule. If rescheduling is difficult, getting a refund is common. Filming in fog is not recommended, and if possible you should book for the earlier days of your Prague trip.
- October in Prague is a highly recommended time for family travel. Babies and older adults are less affected by the temperatures. The downside is that October falls into Prague’s early peak tourist season, so airfare and hotel rates are somewhat higher.
- If you want to enjoy autumn scenery, do it by the end of October at the latest. It's still possible in early November, but the leaves are usually too bare by then, so I most recommend mid to late October. I've included Google Maps links to the recommended spots in the post.
- You can, but I don't recommend it. Rain usually doesn't last long, so I suggest popping into a café for a cup of tea and waiting a bit before continuing your plans. Unlike in summer, from October the temperature drop when it rains feels a little chilly.
