The middle of summer when temperatures are highest during the year

July weather in Prague is the warmest period of the year. In 2026 the heatwave also peaked in July, and it was so hot that many of the highest-temperature days fell in July — this is a time when you should always carry bottled water and a handkerchief in your bag as a precaution against heatstroke. The heat eases in the mornings and late afternoons, so if you spend the sunniest hours in museums or at performances you can avoid the worst of the heat and still enjoy your trip.
Personally, because I do a lot of Prague photo shoots, I think July, when the skies are very beautiful, is the time of year Prague looks most photogenic. Even though heatwaves occur, if you want to see and capture great views, July is definitely a recommended time to visit.

The average temperature in Prague in July is about 21°C. That’s an average, and in 2026 there were days over 38°C on July 30–31. That heatwave continued into early August, and from June through August you can expect 3–5 days each month with temperatures above 35°C, so always carry water and a handkerchief to guard against heatstroke.
At around 40°C ozone smog can form, worsening air quality; on those days it’s best to rest at your accommodation or plan indoor activities like museum tours or visiting large shopping malls.
What are the features of Prague weather in July?
The main feature of Prague in July is simply that it’s the hottest time of year. However, it’s quite dry, so it feels different from 40°C in East Asian countries. Even at 40°C it’s extremely hot, but the sensation differs a lot because of differences in humidity and dryness.
So on a typical hot day, around 30°C feels, to me, very comfortable for outdoor activities though people will vary. Compared with June, showers in July can be heavier; if rain is short (under 30 minutes) it’s no problem, but if it lasts 3–4 hours temperatures will drop, so bring a small umbrella.
How should I dress?
Although July is the warmest month, temperatures can drop a lot at dawn or after several hours of rain. The left photo shows people after about four hours of rain — all the women are wearing cardigans — and the right photo was taken on a day when it rained the previous night and stayed cloudy all day, so most people wore long clothes.
Pack cool clothes like short sleeves, shorts, sleeveless tops, and dresses, and also bring a cardigan or windbreaker for when temperatures fall.
Don’t pack for Prague as if you’re traveling in Southeast Asia with only summer clothes.
This is what I wore during a shoot in Prague in July 2017. Personally I don’t get cold easily, so whether it rained or the temperature dropped, I spent July mostly dressed like in the photo.
Does it rain a lot in July?
It’s rare for rain to last all day in July; like June, short sudden showers are common. After a rain the air becomes very clean and you often see rainbows, and the heat subsides making it pleasant. In Korea or Japan humid conditions after rain can be uncomfortable, but in Prague rain evaporates quickly so humidity-related discomfort is minimal.
It’s good to carry a sun umbrella that doubles as rain protection. Prague sunshine is strong, so use sunscreen and a parasol together. Or, like me, wear a wide-brimmed hat while you walk around.
Do I recommend traveling to Prague in July?
Personally I think Prague is at its most beautiful in July.
Because of the high temperatures and frequent sudden showers, the air is clear and the clouds are pretty, which makes Prague look even more beautiful. Visiting the medieval city when it looks more beautiful than usual creates lasting memories. Of course heatwaves happen, but taking breaks then is perfectly fine.
You can also see spectacular sunsets almost every day, so the city shows beautiful and surprising scenes day after day. The season for frequent sunsets runs from April to October, and to me July is the best. If you want to enjoy the dusk in Prague with a great Czech beer in hand for a romantic time, I recommend traveling in July.

- In July in Prague it rarely rains all day; most rain comes as short, passing showers. After the rain the air actually clears, so views from high vantage points are often crisper and more beautiful.
