Výtopna Prague restaurant: where a train serves your food

A visit to Výtopna on Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) in Prague, a restaurant where a train serves your food and drinks. It covers prices as of October 2024, how to book, and my review of the handmade burger and teriyaki chicken I ordered.

Hi, I’m CULT.
Today I’m going to tell you about a famous restaurant in Prague where a train serves your food and drinks.
It used to show up on my blog quite often, but since the pandemic most of Prague’s other train restaurants have closed and only this original location is still running normally,, so now the waits here are seriously crazy. That’s why I deliberately picked a weekday afternoon, when there are the fewest tourists.
On weekends, if you haven’t booked, you can expect to wait at least an hour, so please be sure to make a reservation before you go.
And the food is very expensive.

The entrance to the restaurant on Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) has a green sign reading Výtopna.

I’ve put the location, prices and booking tips up front.

ProsA famous restaurant in Prague where a train serves your food and drinks. The food is decent and it's a special experience if you come with kids, but it's not good value for the price.
ConsThe food is very expensive. On weekends, if you haven't booked, you can expect to wait at least an hour, and the train leaves 15 seconds after serving, so you have to take your photos fast.

Location and booking

It’s on Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí), and booking is a must.

The restaurant is on Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí). It’s very easy to find.
I recommend opening the restaurant’s website through Google Maps and making a reservation. Like I said, this is the age of Instagram, isn’t it? In autumn 2024 I took an Instagram marketing course, and the claim that Instagram users have no sense of judgment, have a strong urge to buy on impulse, and basically exist to be ripped off was something I really couldn’t wrap my head around. But,, after seeing this place, I got it instantly -_-;;
It’s really expensive.
Even so, it’s extremely popular. On weekends, don’t even dream of going without a reservation,,

The restaurant where a train serves you

Know the seating system and the 15-second serving rule.

Large pieces of meat hang aging inside a glass display case.

I wandered around the restaurant and took a few photos. I guess this is the kind of meat they use. Me,, I can’t tell just by looking.

A small train stands on the tracks between the kitchen and the shelves inside the restaurant.

The parking lot for the serving trains 😀

A hand holds a train-ticket-style slip with seat number 49A on it.

When you walk in, they assign you a seat like this, and you just go and sit there.
One thing to watch out for: after the train serves your food, it leaves 15 seconds later, so they warn you to be quick if you want photos. Yep, a restaurant built for Instagram xD

Train tracks run across a wooden table under the ceiling lights.

In the old days it was really complicated, but now it’s become very simple. How to put it,, if it used to feel like a setup for composing a pretty photo, now it feels like it was built so you can film good short-form videos.

Guests sit at a long table with tracks running along it inside the restaurant.

Even at around 4 p.m. on a Tuesday, there are quite a few people.
The place is at least 5 times the size of what you can see here.

The ARRIVALS screen shows seat numbers and arrival times.

My seat is 49A, so it tells me when the train will arrive xD
Looks just like Prague Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží) 🙂

A small train carrying drinks has arrived on the tracks at a table by the window.

First the drinks arrive like this. I take my photos quickly, within 15 seconds.

Drinks and food

I ordered beer, a handmade burger and teriyaki chicken.

I ordered a Krušovice.
Maybe it’s because their main beer has changed, but the Krušovice wasn’t very good. Will I even come back,, if I ever do, though, I’ll probably try the beer Výtopna brews itself instead of Krušovice.
Krušovice is a really good beer, but to me it tastes as though it’s been sitting around because it doesn’t sell well here.

Two gray train cars carrying food have their lids closed.

The food gets delivered by train like this, too.

A tray holds a handmade burger, fries, coleslaw and chicken.

Open the lid and there’s what you ordered.
What I ordered was the handmade burger and the teriyaki chicken.

The handmade burger is served with sauce and fries.

This burger is 490 CZK. I’d put the burger itself at roughly 260 CZK; to me, it tastes like something from a good, above-average burger place. The remaining 230 CZK is what you’re paying to show off on Instagram,
I think it would have been even better if the burger bun had been toasted a little longer.

Teriyaki chicken sits next to the fries and coleslaw.

There are four pieces of chicken. 490 CZK, whoa,, if they charged around 600 CZK for this, that’s Michelin-star restaurant pricing -_-;;
Given how long the train is, laying the food out in one long line also looks very shrewd.
Well,, it’s good for showing off on Instagram, but I don’t think it’s good value. It could be something special if you come with kids.

A fork holds a piece of sauce-coated chicken, with fries alongside.

This sort of Korean-style-ish chicken is pretty common in Prague. But it tastes good. The meat quality is good, too,

Price and verdict

Prices as of October 2024, and who it’s for.

A hand holds a receipt showing 1,190 CZK.

The bill came to 1,190 CZK -_-;;
The most expensive meal I’d had in 2024,,
The train did the serving, so should I tip the train? I just sort of left without tipping.

Souvenirs such as T-shirts and aprons hang inside the shop.

Well,, they have souvenirs too..

I recommend it to people looking for something special, people who want to show off on Instagram even if it costs a lot, or people looking for a place kids might enjoy.
This is my first time here since the pandemic. I used to go all the time before that,, but I don’t think I’ll go again. Well,, if it’s somebody’s birthday, or someone’s heading back to their home country, or you’re having a farewell party, that’s another matter.

Official website prices

I’ve listed these separately from the prices I paid during my visit.

This paragraph isn’t from my own visit but from checking Výtopna’s official website. According to the official menu for September 2026 (PDF), which I checked on October 29, 2026, the burger is 540 CZK (fries included), Krušovice 11° beer is 116 CZK, and Výtopna’s own house-brewed beers are 127–141 CZK. The burger has gone up from the 490 CZK handmade burger I ate in October 2024. I couldn’t find the teriyaki chicken I ate on this menu. It’s open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, and the official page for the Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) branch lists a phone number (+420 775 444 554) and an email address ([email protected]).
