Pork ribs, tartare and toasted bread are on the table.

Where to Eat in Prague: 17 Spots, from Meals to Desserts

Where to eat in Prague, from Czech food and beer to dessert

Dobrý den! I’m CULT.
Today I’m rounding up my restaurant recommendations in Prague. Save this post for your trip and you won’t need to keep searching elsewhere. By 2019, I’d visited every restaurant in the Prague 1 district, and although I haven’t updated everything, I made some updates after the pandemic through 2024. So I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find better information 😀
These aren’t ranked in any particular order. I’ve simply listed the places I recommend as they came to mind, so click through to the posts about any restaurants that catch your eye!

I lived in Prague for 11 years and have visited every restaurant in the Prague 1 district. Drawing on my experience writing more than 5,000 blog posts about Prague, I’ll introduce you to some good places to eat.

Let’s get straight to it.

Meals

Alforno

Italian restaurant

Alforno Prague: When You Crave Margherita

This place used to be well known for its location in front of the InterContinental hotel. But the hotel renovation has been going on for almost 4? Nearly 5 years?.. So the restaurant moved near the Old Town (Staré Město), and it still lives up to its reputation. Both the pizza and pasta are good. It’s a bit pricey.. but cheaper than pizza and pasta in Korea, so don’t worry..
If you’re tired of Czech food or just.. craving Italian, I recommend a visit!

Sandwich Rodeo

American-style sandwich shop

Sandwich Rodeo: I’d Pick the Beef in Prague

This place is really good, you see? But no matter how much I recommend it.. nobody seems interested. Everyone sticks to the obvious choices.. Like going to Pork’s, eating German Haxe and saying they’ve had koleno. I’d rather recommend an American-style sandwich.
Both the burgers and sandwiches here are delicious. The place has an American feel too, and it’s a good stop after visiting Letná Park (Letenské sady).

U Kroka

An SSS-tier restaurant in Prague

U Kroka menu recommendations: Everything’s good, but…

If I had to pick just one best restaurant from my 11 years living in Prague, U Kroka would always come first!
It’s a shame the menu has shrunk so much since the pandemic, but it still lives up to its reputation. Western diners know it for its schnitzel, and the cooking is good across the board. If you can visit only one restaurant on your trip to Prague, I’d recommend U Kroka, of course. The ultimate place for Czech food. SSS-tier.

Mr. HotDoG

Excellent value at Mr. HotDoG

Mr. HotDoG: Chili cheese gets my vote in Prague

Another place with an American feel, run by the same owner as Sandwich Rodeo, which I mentioned earlier. The guy just likes American style, so that’s how he sets up his places. This one did so well that he opened another shop, Sandwich Rodeo.
The prices are reasonable and the hot dogs are good, making it a local favorite. It’s near Letná, so I recommend stopping by when you go there. Can you really say you’ve visited Prague these days without going to Letná?

AGAVE

A Mexican restaurant I highly recommend

Agave Prague: Mexican Food and Burritos Worth the Price

Through 2018, I picked my TOP 3 restaurants in Prague every year, and this place was a contender every time. The food is really good. The catch is that it’s a bit pricey, but it’s the sort of place where Prague’s hip, successful crowd goes to eat. The food itself is good, and it stays open late, so you can drink tequila at the bar and make a night of it in Prague. There are plenty of clubs next door too.. so.. go wild…
The burritos are delicious, and the nachos are great with drinks. Recommended.

Pizzeria Flamengo

My favorite pasta place in Prague

Flamengo Prague: Pizza, Pasta and Generous Portions

My favorite pasta place in Prague. The pizza is good too, though Alforno has a slight edge on pizza, honestly.
The portions are big.. and it tastes good.. Having a place like this when you live in Prague is a blessing. Once the exhibition grounds in the Prague 7 district finish their renovation, you’ll be visiting that area a lot. This place is on the way, so it’s easy to stop by. I really can’t recommend it enough.

U Glaubiců

U Glaubiců

U Glaubiců: Pilsner Urquell in Prague, Beer First

It’s supposed to sound something like U Glaubichu, but I’ve been going since before I learned Czech, so I just call it U Glebiku. It’s near Charles Bridge (Karlův most), so it’s easy to reach, and it has the fastest beer turnover in Prague, which means the freshest Pilsner Urquell. And the lowest price in Prague. The low price isn’t the point; it shows how confident they are in the freshness of their beer. Recommended for anyone who can’t even be bothered to take the tram four stops to U Kroka.

SmetanaQ

A good café for breakfast

SmetanaQ Café: Waffles in Prague

A café I always take my friends from Korea to when they visit—my female friends, to be clear. The breakfast is good, and the funny thing is they serve the breakfast menu until 2 p.m. 😀
It’s so popular that they go beyond brunch and keep serving breakfast even past lunchtime. That’s how popular the breakfast menu is. It’s near Charles Bridge (Karlův most), and since so many of you book Airbnbs rather than hotels these days, I recommend trying a meal here if your place doesn’t include breakfast. It’s good. The catch is that it’s a bit pricey.

U Pinkasů

Proper koleno

U Pinkasů: Melt-in-Your-Mouth Koleno in Prague

This is probably the last place in Prague making koleno the traditional Czech way. Prague’s last beacon of hope while everyone else churns out Haxe that misses the point, all to save on gas bills. If you want proper koleno, this is the place to go. Koleno is.. a dish you really need to know how to cut, and I’ve even included instructions in the post..
You’re in Czechia, so you’ve gotta try some Czech food, right?

Točna Dlabačov

Tram pub

Točna tram pub: A beer in a retired tram in Prague

A place where you can enjoy a beer inside a tram, albeit a retired one. It’s not especially tasty, but it’s unusual, so I’m sharing it. Sometimes you follow your heart rather than your taste buds, right? This is the place for that. I recommend a visit if you’re staying in Prague a little longer.

KOREAN KITCHEN

Korean food adapted to local tastes

KOREAN KITCHEN: Cold Udon in Prague, Tangy Broth and Chewy Noodles

A restaurant run by someone I know. But the food is good. It’s Korean food, though somewhat adapted to local tastes. It’s in the Prague 7 district, and I recommend a visit if you’re going to Stromovka Park (Stromovka). Another recommendation for a longer stay in Prague!

Budvarka

The original Budweiser

Budvarka Prague: Meat dishes after a castle visit

One of the three must-visit restaurants in Prague: U Kroka, U Pinkasů, and finally, Budvarka!
You can drink the real Czech Budweiser here! I can promise you, if you’re a woman in your 20s, there’s a very good chance you’ll like it. The beer is smooth and really delicious. I’ve taken customers here, you knooow! I didn’t include it in my picks toward the end of my time in Prague in 2024, but it’s still one of my top 3 restaurants in Prague! It’s about 500 meters from the north gate of Prague Castle (Pražský hrad), so it’s a little out of the way. But if you want ribs where the meat slips clean off the bone, get over there now.
One of the top three places I’d want to visit if I went to Prague right now.

Strahov Monastery Brewery

Strahov Monastery Brewery

Strahov Monastery Brewery: Go for the Beer in Prague

Strahov Monastery Brewery!
It’s so famous I’ll skip the explanation! When I went toward the end of my time in Prague in 2024, the food had really gone downhill overall. Or.. maybe it just felt that way because I was constantly trying good restaurants. The thumbnail shows ribs, right? And the post I introduced just above is Budvarka, the ultimate place for ribs.. There’s.. quite a gap. So if I go here, I plan to drink amber lager with no food at all. Highly recommended for the amber lager alone!

Kozlovna Apropos

Kozlovna: Where to drink dark beer

Kozlovna Prague: Kozel Dark near Charles Bridge

Kozlovna has become a pilgrimage spot for Koreans. It’s a famous place, and whenever I walk past each day, there are Koreans sitting at at least five tables inside.
Honestly, I’m not keen on the food here. It falls short of the other places I’ve introduced. But the dark beer tastes good because its turnover is among the highest in Prague. With dark beer, turnover is everything! Nothing beats freshness. So is there anywhere else I can recommend? Probably.. not?
For food to go with your beer, skip the mains and choose snacks from the front of the menu.

Dessert

Cukrář Skála

Skála dessert shop

Skála desserts: Raspberry Mousse and Potato Bread in Prague

The best-value dessert shop in Prague.
It’s near Republic Square (náměstí Republiky), so it’s easy to get to, and the desserts are really good. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, so if your meal wasn’t quite enough, go for dessert. Go twice. Let’s see.. places around here where lots of Koreans stay include Grandior Hotel, Hotel Kings Court and Hilton Prague, plus the Korean-run guesthouse Prague Story. I recommend this shop, so make sure you visit.

Cukrárna Alchymista

An S-tier dessert café in Prague

Cukrárna Alchymista: Garden Cakes in Prague

This is like my own secret garden. If I hadn’t decided to leave for Japan, I wouldn’t have told you about this café. I’d have kept it to myself. It’s near Sparta Prague, so it’s a little out of the way, but I recommend visiting if you’re staying in Prague a while. The desserts are good, and the owner is cheerful and funny. And the interior.. feels a little like another world..

Crème de la Crème

Czechia’s best chain

Crème de la Crème: Serious About Gelato in Prague

A chain founded by someone who takes gelato seriously. He studied at a gelato school in Italy, opened a gelato museum in Prague and organizes all sorts of gelato events. This is a brand built by a true obsessive, and the gelato is good. Recommended. There are three shops in central Prague, so stop by when you pass one.

Wrapping up…

At first I was hunting down restaurants just to survive, and that’s how I ended up trying every restaurant in the Prague 1 district.

During my 11 years living in Prague, I visited every restaurant in the Prague 1 district. Some were delicious.. and plenty were so bad I wondered how anyone could recommend them. Today I’ve picked out the good ones, so keep this list handy for your trip to Prague 😀

●Frequently Asked Questions
  • I'd recommend U Kroka. During my 11 years living in Prague, it was always my choice if I had to pick just one best restaurant.
  • For pasta, I'd recommend Flamengo, my favorite pasta place in Prague. The portions are generous and the pizza is good too, though Alforno has a slight edge if you're choosing purely for pizza.
  • I'd recommend U Pinkasů for koleno. As far as I can tell, it's probably the last place in Prague making it the traditional Czech way.
  • For Pilsner Urquell, I'd recommend U Glaubiců, where beer turnover is high. For Kozel Dark, it's Kozlovna. Dark beer tastes good when turnover is high.
  • SmetanaQ near Charles Bridge (Karlův most) serves its breakfast menu until 2 p.m. If your accommodation doesn't include breakfast, I'd recommend trying a meal here.
  • Sandwich Rodeo and Mr. HotDoG are near Letná Park (Letenské sady). They're American-style places run by the same owner, so stop by when you're craving a sandwich or hot dog.
  • The opening information checked in November 2026 lists its season as April through October. During those months, the listed hours are Monday to Friday 16:00–22:00 and Saturday and Sunday 11:00–22:00, so a winter visit wouldn't fit that schedule.
  • The cold udon I featured has since been removed from the menu. This was checked in November 2026, so bear that in mind if you were planning to visit for it.
