Strahov Monastery Brewery: Go for the Beer in Prague
The beer was so good I lingered at Strahov Monastery Brewery in Prague.
Dobrý den! I’m CULT.
Today I’d like to introduce a place you’d regret missing on a trip to Prague. Well.. I’ve posted about it on my blog before and mentioned it several times.. but those posts are so old that people have trouble finding them, so I’ve taken new photos and am posting about it again. It’s Strahov Monastery Brewery. The food is pretty good, and the beer is excellent, which is why I personally recommend it.

Strahov Monastery Brewery: Summary
I recommend it for the beer more than the food.
Details
Being Strahov Monastery Brewery.. it’s inside Strahov Monastery (Strahovský klášter), of course.
It opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. every day. I’d advise against planning to eat here at lunchtime on weekends. The wait is quite long. Weekdays are a little better, but if you’re visiting on a weekend, I recommend avoiding mealtimes.

A word of warning first.. business was good here even during COVID. So the staff have no manners. What I’m saying is, don’t expect friendly service. A lot of restaurants in the city center went into debt during COVID and improved their service as a result.. but this place was less affected, so the staff never had to learn any manners.
The beer is good.. so even if the staff are rude.. just think, the staff here have always been like this~ and enjoy it 😀

This is what it looks like inside. There are two indoor sections, and I always come to this one because I like the spacious tables.

A photo of the fork and knife for no particular reason 😀
Since I ordered ribs, they gave me a knife suited to cutting meat.

First up, I ordered ribs and goulash.
Honestly, the food is much better at Budvarka, which I covered in my previous restaurant post about Prague. You come here for the beer. The beer!

The ribs are quite tender. The meat comes off the bone easily, so they shouldn’t be too awkward to eat. The catch is, they don’t give you many napkins, so your hands end up covered in sauce.

Next is the goulash. I can cook something this good on my own at home. I’ve been to almost every restaurant in Prague, and this is about average 😀

Since it’s a brewery.. there’s a separate beer menu. If you asked me to recommend just one, it’d be AMBER LAGER. It’s a lager that goes down easily, with less of a bitter aftertaste than Pilsner Urquell, so women like it too.
Google Maps lists it as open, and Prague’s official tourism website gives the same hours as above, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. I found no notices of closure or construction (checked in November 2026). Prices on the Strahov Monastery Brewery official website are 58 CZK for 0.25L and 89 CZK for 0.4L of amber lager or dark lager, and 63 CZK for 0.25L and 97 CZK for 0.4L of IPA. These have risen from the 2023 prices in the photos: 78 CZK for 0.4L of amber lager or dark lager and 85 CZK for 0.4L of IPA. The food prices have also risen from those in the photos: beer-marinated pork ribs are 475 CZK and beef goulash with dark lager is 339 CZK. The Pale Ale pictured is no longer on the official beer list.

The two of us had nine beers in total, mainly these three: amber lager / IPA / amber dark.
They’re all good. The IPA is a little higher in alcohol, though, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t handle alcohol well.

The hand you see over there.. belongs to Jeff, who picked up the tab for the drinks that day. Thanks for treating me!

We kept on drinking and ran out of food to go with the beer, so we ordered this salad as well. It tastes pretty ordinary.

And here’s something I regretted ordering.. blood sausage. I ordered it because it said sausage.. but blood sausage.. I spat out the first bite. If you like blood sausage, this might be a somewhat unusual experience. I dislike that dry, chalky texture so much that I won’t even eat the liver served with sundae, but if your tastes are the opposite of mine, maybe..

The total came to 1721 CZK.
The beer was so good.. I spent quite a while sitting here enjoying it. If you visit Prague, do stop by the monastery brewery and enjoy some fresh beer.

- The photos in this post are from 2023. The menus and receipt are from that visit, so the prices differ from those today.
