Prague food guide: 17 places, from meals to dessert
Where to eat in Prague, from Czech food and beer to dessert after your meal
Dobrý den! I’m CULT.
Today, I’m rounding up my restaurant recommendations in Prague. Save this post for your trip and you won’t need to keep searching all over the place. By 2019, I’d visited every restaurant in the Prague 1 district, and after the pandemic I updated some of that information through 2024, though not all of it. So I think you’ll find better information here than anywhere else 😀
There’s no particular ranking. I’ve just listed the places I recommend as they came to mind, so open the posts for any restaurants that catch your eye and take a look!
Let’s get straight to it.
Meals

This place used to be well known in front of the InterContinental Hotel. But the hotel renovation had been going on for almost 4 years? Nearly 5?.. so the restaurant moved near Prague’s Old Town (Staré Město). It still lives up to its reputation after the move. Both the pizza and pasta are good. It’s a little pricey.. but cheaper than pizza and pasta in Korea, so don’t worry..
If you’re getting tired of Czech food, or just.. craving Italian, I recommend a visit!

This place is really good, you know? But however much I recommend it.. people aren’t interested. Everyone sticks to the same old things.. like going to Pork’s, eating German Haxe and saying they’ve had koleno. I’d rather recommend an American sandwich.
The burgers and sandwiches here are both good. The place has an American feel too, so it’s a good stop after visiting Letná Park (Letenské sady).

The best value for money for desserts in Prague.
It’s conveniently near Republic Square (náměstí Republiky), and the desserts are delicious. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so if your meal hasn’t quite filled you up, go for dessert. Then go again. Around here.. the places where lots of Koreans stay are Grandior Hotel, Hotel Kings Court and Hilton Prague, plus the Korean guesthouse Prague Story. I recommend this shop, so do give it a try.
After 11 years living in Prague, if I had to pick just one restaurant as the absolute best, U Kroka would always be my number 1!
It’s a shame the menu has shrunk so much since the pandemic, but it still lives up to its reputation. Western diners know it for its schnitzel, and the cooking is good across the board. If you could visit only one restaurant on your Prague trip, of course I’d recommend U Kroka. The ultimate in Czech food. SSS-tier.

This place is like my own secret garden. If I hadn’t decided to leave for Japan, I would never have told you about this café. All mine. It’s near Sparta Prague, so it’s a little less convenient to reach, but I recommend a visit if you’re staying in Prague for a while. The desserts are good, and the owner is really cheerful and fun. And the interior.. feels a bit like another world..
Another place with an American feel, owned by the same guy as Sandwich Rodeo, which I mentioned earlier. He just likes the American style, so that’s how he opens his places. This one did so well that he opened another shop, Sandwich Rodeo.
Reasonable prices and tasty hot dogs have made it a local favorite. It’s near Letná, so I definitely recommend stopping by when you go there. Though these days, can you really say you’ve visited Prague if you haven’t been to Letná?

Through 2018, I picked my TOP 3 restaurants in Prague every year, and this place was a contender every time. It’s really, really good. The catch is that it’s a little pricey, but it’s the kind of place where Prague’s hip, successful crowd eats. The food is good, and it stays open late, so you can spend a big night in Prague drinking tequila at the bar. Lots of clubs nearby too.. just.. go for it…
The burritos are good, and the nachos go well with drinks. Recommended.

A chain founded by someone who takes gelato seriously. The owner studied at a gelato school in Italy, created a gelato museum in Prague and organizes all kinds of gelato events. A brand born of a true obsessive. The gelato is good. Recommended. There are three shops in central Prague, so stop in when you’re passing.
My favorite place for pasta in Prague. The pizza is good too, though honestly, Alforno has a slight edge on pizza.
First of all, the portions are big.. and the food is good.. Living in Prague, having a place like this is a blessing. Once the exhibition grounds in the Prague 7 district finish their renovation, lots of you will be heading over there to look around. This restaurant is on the way, so it’s convenient too. I really can’t recommend it enough.

It’s pronounced something like U Glaubichu, but I’d been coming here since before I learned Czech, so I just call it U Glebiku. It’s conveniently near Charles Bridge (Karlův most), and with the fastest beer turnover in Prague, it serves the freshest Pilsner Urquell. And at the lowest price in Prague. The low price isn’t the point; it’s a sign of just how confident they are in the freshness of their beer. Recommended for anyone who can’t even be bothered to ride the tram four stops to U Kroka.

A café I always took my female friends to when they visited from Korea. The breakfast is good, and the funny thing is, they serve the breakfast menu until 2 p.m. 😀
It’s so popular they serve breakfast beyond brunch and even past lunchtime. That tells you how popular the breakfast menu is. It’s near Charles Bridge (Karlův most), and since so many of you now stay in Airbnbs rather than hotels, I recommend having a meal here if breakfast isn’t included. It’s good. The catch is that it’s a bit pricey.

This may be the last place in Prague making koleno the traditional Czech way. Prague’s last ray of hope while everyone else churns out Haxe instead of proper koleno to save on gas bills. If you want proper koleno, this is the place. Koleno.. really does need careful carving, and I’ve even written up how to cut it in the post..
You’re in Czechia, so surely you’ve got to try some Czech food?

A place to enjoy beer inside a retired tram. It isn’t especially tasty, but I’m mentioning it because it’s unusual. Sometimes you follow your heart rather than your taste buds, right? This is a place for those moments. I’d recommend a visit if you’re staying in Prague a little longer.

A restaurant run by someone I know. But the food is good. It’s Korean food, though adapted a little to local tastes. It’s in the Prague 7 district, and I recommend stopping by if you’re going to Stromovka Park. Another recommendation for a longer stay in Prague!

You’re in Czechia, so surely you’ve got to try some Czech food?
One of the three must-visit restaurants in Prague: U Kroka, U Pinkasů and, finally, Budvarka!
You can drink real Czech Budweiser here! I can vouch for this: if you’re a woman in your 20s, chances are you’ll like it. The beer is smooth and really good. I’ve taken clients here, you knooow! I didn’t make a list toward the end of my time in Prague in 2024, but anyway, it’s one of Prague’s top three restaurants! It’s about 500 meters from the north gate of Prague Castle (Pražský hrad), so it’s a little less convenient to reach. But if you want ribs where the meat parts from the bone like oil from water, get yourself over there.
One of the top three places I’d want to visit if I went to Prague right now.

Strahov Monastery Brewery!
It’s so famous I’ll skip the introduction! When I went toward the end of my time in Prague in 2024, the food overall had gone downhill quite a bit. Or.. maybe it just felt that way because I was constantly out trying restaurants. The thumbnail shows ribs, right? And the post just above is about Budvarka, the ultimate place for ribs.. there’s.. quite a gap. So if I come here, I plan to drink amber lager without any food. Highly recommended for the amber lager alone!

Kozlovna has become a pilgrimage spot for Koreans. Every day I passed this famous place, there were Koreans at at least five tables inside.
Honestly, I don’t like the food here. It’s below the standard of the places I’ve introduced so far. The dark beer is good because its turnover is among the highest in Prague. With dark beer, turnover is everything! Nothing beats freshness. So there probably.. isn’t anywhere else I could recommend?
For food to go with it, skip the main dishes and try the bar snacks at the front of the menu.

Kozlovna Apropos
Kozlovna: A place for dark beer

Wrapping up…
I started looking for restaurants just to survive, and ended up trying every restaurant in the Prague 1 district.

A brand born of a true obsessive. The gelato is good. Recommended. There are three shops in central Prague, so stop in when you’re passing.
- I'd recommend U Kroka. During my 11 years living in Prague, it was always my choice whenever I had to name just one best restaurant.
- For pasta, I recommend Flamengo, my favorite in Prague. The portions are generous and the pizza is good too, though for pizza alone, Alforno has a slight edge.
- For koleno, I recommend U Pinkasů. I think it may be the last place in Prague making it the traditional Czech way.
- For Pilsner Urquell, I recommend U Glaubiců, where beer turnover is high. For Kozel dark beer, go to Kozlovna. Dark beer tastes best when turnover is high.
- SmetanaQ near Charles Bridge (Karlův most) serves its breakfast menu until 2 p.m. If your accommodation doesn't include breakfast, I recommend trying a meal here.
- Sandwich Rodeo and Mr. HotDoG are near Letná Park (Letenské sady). They're American-style places run by the same owner, so stop by when you fancy a sandwich or hot dog.
- The opening information checked in November 2026 lists April through October. During that period, the hours are Monday to Friday 16:00–22:00, and Saturday and Sunday 11:00–22:00, so a winter visit would fall outside the listed season.
- The cold udon I featured has been removed from the menu. This was checked in November 2026, so bear that in mind if you were planning to go for the cold udon.
